Trella Hemmerly – 1980-05-28

Wednesday May 28th
Didn’t go to sleep until 4:00 so everyone was up and had breakfast by time I got up. David went in to talk to Eric[Bob Erickson] about flying between Cincinnati and Marion to manage both Hemmerly’s & Vielhauer’s. Eric said it would be too expensive and the 100 miles per gallon plane David heard of was not to fly 150 miles in- only around an airport. So David’s decision is to not accept the management of Hemmerly’s on a four-day week basis. I’m glad he made that decision because I could not have let him do it. It is a full-time job commitment. David canoed down to Roberts Road and we picked him up. They left before lunch. Kathi went to pick Davie up at Mary’s and I lay down. Didn’t feel like going in to dinner at Turroff’s but Kathi went and then went to Mary Jordans & then Mary and Kenny’s. Home about 9.
Jack Peacock called and will be out tomorrow about 4. Has revived his interest in lepidoptera and wants to investigate the infestation of Spring Cancer moths.

Trella Hemmerly – 1980-05-27

Tuesday May 27th
David and family drove Kathi, Davie and Krris up from Cincinnati in time for Dave and Kristi’s dental appointment at 11:15. Then David and Karen went to lunch with Pete and Cass to discuss David commuting to manage Hemmerly’s. Didn’t get any report from either David or Karen on anything that was said. Picked Kathi up downtown and brought her and all of the kids out here after taking lunch to mothers and eating there. Put the curtains back up as Gary didn’t come to varnish as he said he would before Kathi came in to see new bay window in kitchen. David forgot the meat he promised for the picnic so I went to Reese’s and got hamburger and made meatloaf. Jordan’s joined the family. David’s arguments Pro Carter and pro-Russia showed a shallowness that disappoints me. It’s hard to accept the fact that your son can say such stupid things.
Davie went home with Mary and Kenny but slept nine of us here.

Trella Hemmerly – 1980-05-25

Sunday May 25th
2 Robins filling nest and spilling over when I was at the pond a.m. Down with Paris and Helen about 6:00- gone from nest. This is the day I should have spent watching them. Into pond? Swam out? Turtles got them? Flew to bank?
Gardened a.m. Cut off ugly tulips by pond, set out lobelias by Iris bed, planted more Kerria that Lela Brookshire brought out and found that by road doing well from last fall planting.
Wheedled Howard into putting up rod above bay window. Cut off curtains to make a valance, pinned and hemmed. Made meatloaf and baked green beans for supper and for meals while Kathi is here. Howard mowed lower woods even though we had 1” rain yesterday about 3:30 on top of 1” early Saturday morning
Called David’s about 7. Having dinner. Bob drove kathi, Kristi & Dave to Memphis to visit his folks. No wonder I got no answer yesterday for this am. Kathi had arrived in Cincinnati on schedule about 4:00.
