Eula Rhodes called about a saying Heritage Hall closed today forecast for big winter storm but only fine snow came down until about 10 when really snowed heavily. TV making a big to-do. I guess areas south and west had it worse.
Spent most of day at kitchen window going through Lu Carhart’s Civil War letters to excerpt locales and battle info. Printed out another five letters to send to Dave and sent him an email with the 1883 Marion County history report on 96th regiment.
Left a disk in A: Drive and when I turned computer on I couldn’t access Drive C:
Was out only to feed birds – Some at feeder all the time added goldfinch, dove, tree sparrow, flicker (flying), cardinal, blue jay, starling.

Watched part of the Rose Bowl parade on TV but sun obscured the screen so was difficult to see – so spent most of the morning at the kitchen window watching birds at feeder. One Robin still around- it was left after the others flew on. Two crows showed up at across the road and at feeder and titmice, white breasted nuthatches, Carolina Chickadees, house finches and sparrows, song sparrow, juncoes, red bellied and downy woodpeckers.

Invited Mary out for roast pork and sauerkraut boil potatoes and bean salad.

Mary and Kenny picked me up at shop at 8:30 and headed south to Columbus for Ohio Historical Society annual meeting.

Friday September 26th
Spent morning getting questions ready for Brenda at Manter Culp Holbrook Accounting at 3:30. Cheryl and I went down she was all apologetic for $10,000 error which was Cheryl’s to begin with but Brenda should have questioned a $10,000 adjustment to accounts receivable! I sure did.
Also gave her FTD financial management book after she foundered on the questions I asked.
Picked up program books at Big Red. Took dues and Jax to Irma Campbell. Rewrote Miriam washburn’s secretary minutes and took to her. Conference with Lil she wants off all of January to go to Florida with friends.
Tim Albright of Social Security called me to enroll me in Medicare as records show that I will be 65 in November. He took info over phone and will mail application to sign. Looks like I will have $650 to $700 a month as I won’t start collecting until at least 1982.
Gave talk to senior citizens of Timothy Lutheran Church on Philippines. They were enchanted. Held at LanJour Restaurant.

Thursday September 25th
Waited until noon for Charles Akers to come see about building shed. Called his wife to see and she said to go to town right then is he wouldn’t come on his noon hour. So I left and he came 10 minutes later.
Had to go to Home Federal to transfer my $10 [sic] money market certificate certificate which was due. Made over $800 on it in six months but decided it was smarter to pay off Normandy mortgage which was $9,900. Interest on money market is down to 10% instead of 15% as it was last March. So now I own three properties free and clear valued conservatively at $75,000 Terradise $60,000 Bordeaux, $65,000 Normandy.
Wrote up Mother’s love life from notes made while talking to her last night. When I showed it to Kass, Cheryl and Mary on Friday they couldn’t put it down till the end! Maybe I am a writer!
Zelma Howard brought me a plate of sugar cookies because I sent her flowers because she loaned me money for Quest Club dinner

Wednesday September 24th
2 hour conference with Judy and Kass about shop future. Kass would like to manage it but has six years yet that belong to her kids and doesn’t have enough background. Judy delighted with design room manager job. Told them about Chris and her ambitions. Called shop conference at 3 and told them Judy would be design manager. All pledged their cooperation. Laura disappointed, I know, but I tried to make her feel that her wedding work was important.
Found $10,000 error on June and July financial statements. In the midst of all this picked up newsletter at Big Red Q and got it in the mail by 3 p.m.
Told Jordan’s & Hecker’s about shop developments. Kenny hurt Mary again with his remarks about getting a free ride with me to Columbus Saturday instead of driving their car. Mary Jordan after they left said she wanted to tell Mary not to marry him- but didn’t- and with Bernard Brooks she told him not to marry Betty and she was wrong whatever she did! Tuesday September 23rd
Chris Kennedy in to talk about a job at Hemmerly’s- turns out it’s mine she wants! Thanks so much like me and is very confident of herself- loves being a florist. Wants to own her own shop in 10 years. Hired her as of November 1st $4 an hour as designer until Jan 1st and then I’ll start training her for my job.
Altrusa dinner meeting. Rev. Drees on Red Cross Blood Bank. Made me feel guilty that I haven’t donated since Daddy needed it 20 years ago.
Returned David’s call. He wants to borrow chainsaw to cut yew hedge at back of his lot- it’s 20 feet high and 15 ft wide. Rental down there would cost $30+. Planned steam engine trip from Maysville to Cincinnati on October 27th. Told him about Chris.
Also called Kathi to tell her. She was showing the slides I sent.
