Trella Hemmerly – 1935-09-28

Saturday September 28th 1935 George Wingate has been married since April
Bernard Brooks came after Wally to cut corn about 6:30 and made so much noise I got up to. Too wet though so they didn’t go. I cleaned my room good. Started some clothes but summer ones away.
We went up town this afternoon Walt treated me at Islay’s.
Spent the evening at home. Mary took care Glenn’s baby. Walt and I played bridge and had popcorn. So to bed about 11:30. Figured we could live on $25

Looked rainy this morning and then rained all day. Such a long dull day. Got the 5:30 bus to Marion. Mary came up and got me. I’m packed, fixed Waltz gift and put it in my dresser for him to find Wednesday. Add popcorn. Read the paper Etc.
Wally came in from work about 1 and kissed me goodnight before he went to bed.
Mother baked the first pumpkin pies of the season.

Saw Louis Woolum for a minute tonight when I transferred.
Just finished a letter to Wally. Now I’m going downstairs and listen to the Joe Louis Max Baer fight. Louis is slated to win.
Louis knocked Baer out in the third.

Oh! such a nice weekend. Except that I had a headache today. Wally came about 12. Ed here for dinner too. Had the nicest fried chicken. This afternoon we shelled peanuts, had in ice cream bars and then went for a drive along the river. After supper I lay down for a while and my head got better. Wally and I walked around the campus for about an hour. Then said our good nights on the swing.

Got me a pair of brown low heeled monk Oxfords at Gilbert’s. $2.99 Then we went to the Folies-Bergere at the Palace. Apple and snake dancers best. Ballet with white net dresses pretty. Had supper at Liggett’s, Wally bought me a box of peppermint patties. Home at 9:15. He stayed for only a minute.

Bill furnished blood for a transfusion to George last night and he looked rather pale when he came in at 10:30. George was sinking fast but is better now.
Lolly Smith (one of the drivers) brought me home tonight. Picked up his little boy on the way. Surely darling.
Ironed and read the paper Bath- Bed.
Letter from Wally. Mrs. Haldeman is going to Mary[sic-marry] Louie*.
