Trella Hemmerly – 1935-01-30

Wednesday January 30th 1935
Worked on cards (parcel post and express rates) all morning. Sure is hard on your eyes. Mine I mean.
It warms up to about 30 degrees every noon and drops to zero degrees every night. Such weather.
Called Aunt May this evening. She said her flower garden quilt had 90 but I think 50 will be enough for mine.
Wally brought me a magazine and some candy tonight. He had some overtime.

Up at 5:30 to ride down with B. Shelton. Representative Thomas rode down too. Tried to tell Rosina about Columbus but I don’t think it’s soaked in.
She met me at 5 and got to the nose bleed. Buch Ray picked us up and took us to Spring & High.
Wally down this evening. Davis’ got quite a kick out of us all. Gave Walt a piece of pumpkin pie. Sweet.

Was supposed to work today to fill out express M J cards but worked more on routing. About 35. Took the 12:30 bus home. Saw our car at Wood’s so got off there. Daddy fixing drain
All four of us went to see Wallace Beery in “The Mighty Barnum”. Afterwards Bernard and Rosina came down. Had hot chocolate, toast and some orange marmalade Mrs. Wood gave me. Rosina is coming to Columbus to hunt work.

Up at 6:45. To work at 7:50.
Ervin and Busk went to Xenia. Washburn. Gave Irvin some whiskey and he got half drunk. The whiskey was to keep him warm. Ate at the station and got my check cashed.
Wally came after me about 7:30 and we went to Smith’s Roller Skating rink to skate. The Tenth Avenue young people’s sponsored it.

Bill has been so nice to me lately. I don’t know what’s the matter unless I’m going to get fired and he wants to make it easier.
It was so cold tonight it took your breath. My room is 60 so I put my dress in the window to keep some of it out.
Have one block of my quilt done
Wally called. He’s transferred to the noon shift now. 11 to 2 not so hot if you ask me.

What a cold I have and what a day it is. Warm and rainy this morning. Cold and sleeting and snowing tonight. Sniffled all day.
Cut blocks for my quilt tonight. No print rings cut. Wally called. We don’t appreciate one another enough. He brought me some of his big hankies this noon.
Mr. or Mrs. Davis is snoring so loud I can hear them clear down here.
