Friday May 2nd
Paid $75 to driver of car that Terry hit yesterday.
Conference with Brenda rich on accounting. Lost $10,000 in March! Mostly because of three paydays and $24,000 in accounts payable.
Took mother’s rent money to her in $5 and $1 so she can pay Veva each night. Found she had 4 CDs that were at 6.75& so took them to Home Federal to change to two-and-a-half-year at 10.4%. In April it was 12+%! Stopped at Stout’s office for eviction notice on Willard and Theresa McCoy. After 3 days can start legal action. Served it on Theresa just as she was leaving.
Picked up debris from along road and more flood debris. Howard mowed where I had asked sparing the spring beauties, violets and trout lilies.
Mary called from Moab, Utah while I was taking bath. Will be home next Friday.

Thursday May 1st
Gorgeous 65 degree day. Sunny. Bill and Erma out a.m. and Dave & Virginia Weary, Mary Jordan, Marilee and Gladys out p.m. First outing for Marylee. Served them cake, Pecan coffee cake and trail mix. Gladys can’t taste or smell.
Cleaned off steps leading to river and around pool. Cleaned around Forsythia clumps where flood debris accumulated. Washed some of the 1910 clothes that Ruth Sloan gave Historical Society. Don’t look white, but washed beautifully.
To Quest Club- Guest Day. May baskets big hit. Sat with Dale and Lenore Hughes.
Called Kathi and Dave would be very disappointed if he didn’t go to Don’s so we will let the plans stand
Terry called just as I was leaving for Quest Club. In trying to avoid a stupid driver he hit a car. Not too much damage I gather.

Wednesday April 30th secretaries week up $400 over last year. Did the letter help?
Don Decker called asking me to pay Dave and Kris’s airfare from Columbus to Reno after he pays fare for them to come to Boston. The plan was that he would pay all of the fare when he asked the kids to visit him. It would cost me $400 to oblige! Told Kass about David’s plan to commute and manage Hemmerly’s. She was aghast that Karen wouldn’t move to Marion if David took the job.
To Mary Jordans for dinner as Marilee is still convalescing there from a stroke. Good sausage pilaf and rhubarb.
Margaret Barnhart and Isabel Stump came to Terradise to pick violets for Quest Club favors tomorrow night. Ellen Nesbitt, Laura and I made 7 baskets for centerpieces of Terradise Forsythia and daffodils.
Called Kathy at 11 told her of Don’s request. Sky blue from Oklahoma City to Boston said Kristi doesn’t want to go. Told her of David’s plan- Including airplane- she said that’s impossible- too costly. I agree. David called to tell me Kass had called and wanted to talk to her[?sic] and Karen. Kathy called back at 12:15 with Don’s number at Wright-Patt.

Tuesday April 29th
In at 9:45 in time for David to watch Dave buy from Claproods. Lunch at Hardee’s and David said he is impressed at the efficiency and smoothness of her operation. But Karen would never move to Marion. Said he came prepared to convince himself that he would not want to manage Hemmerly’s. But sounded more attractive than he thought.

Monday April 28th
David at shop at 10:30. Followed me around on a typical day- salesman, checked in merchandise, advertising copy to get ready, lunch with mother, mail to go through. Showed him books back to 1958 when Hemmerly’s did $48,000 a year. Do that most months now. And some months more.
Dinner at Lan-Jar Restaurant at corner of Oak and West Center newly-opened by Helen Loudon. Don’t order chicken breasts!
Typical evening at home after walking around Pond. TV and popcorn.

Nice little 15-minute ceremony taped by WMRN. About 20 people there. Drove mother through Vernon Heights & Chateau Ridge to see the Forsythia blooming everywhere. Howard and I cleaning up in woods when Del Goff and family arrived in their motorhome. By family I mean 15 people. Everyone of his six kids and grandkids and 2 in-laws! Toured the grounds and they came in. Kids all well-behaved.

Saturday April 26th
Brown wedding at First Presbyterian. Rev Urkquart mellow. Told Bill Hoover about his dream. Since everyone wants their “loved ones” kept dry after death he dreamed he had invented a system to keep the body at an even 70° so they would also be warm. In his dream he was all ready to market it!
