Trella Hemmerly – 1935-12-11

Wednesday December 11th 1935
Oh me! Went to the restroom about 12:00 and probably would still have been there if Adele hadn’t given me 2 SeeQuit. However I went back to work about 2:00 and didn’t feel so badly.
Mailed last two acts (not typed) tonight so the kids can get busy on the thing.
Finished another hankie tonight. I really enjoy it.
Rita called asking if I were going home with her. Made arrangements to come back Monday.

I’ll bet Mr. Shelton wonders how I can sleep so blissfully all the way to Columbus. Wally took me to Mr. D’s house. Walked from Statehouse to Broad and High for a car. Only about 15 minutes late. Mother had a nice lunch packed for me.
Got busy on a play for BY next Sunday. Anachronism as if Christ were born under same circumstances today. Got first two scenes done.

Sunday School. Bernard Brooks up and we three went over to see Mary Johnson- baby doing better. Mary up now but not doing much. Home and tried to plan next week’s BY program I am to lead. But how could one with Bernard and Walt throwing apples and Sonny our dog around over my head. Walt got us lunch but just as we were leaving Mother, Daddy and Mary came home with ice cream and things. Bernard, Walt and I went out to Rosina’s afterwards. She had a cold. Had a nice lunch there and read Numbers and Deuteronomy. Bed about 11:10.

Worked on my dress this morning and crocheted this p.m. Uptown with Walt for more hankies, Christmas cards. I still owe $17.70 on my sewing machine. Out to Walt’s grandmother’s for his clean shirts and his aunt invited us to Delmar’s birthday. Wore gold formal. Party too rough and too young for us however. We left. Ran into Bernard Brooks uptown about 10:30. To Isaly’s and then talked in Bernards car till about 12:00. Walt got stuck in the mud at Indian Mound! Not Ft Mills. We got it straightened out however about 2:30.

Monday December 2nd 1935
Up at 5:30. Rosina called a friend of hers who teaches in Columbus and made arrangements for me to ride down with her. Met her (Rita Van Meter) at Fairground & Main at 6:15. We got acquainted on way down. She would like to have an apartment too. Got to work at 7:45. I gave her $0.50.
Everybody had to work Saturday to make up for Thursday so I don’t know what that means to me.
Work surely piled up. Fixed my room up. Made pillow cover etc.
