Thursday January 21st
Interesting Day- Looked through videos for ones on Terradise for garden talk Monday. Found none but enjoyed David and family cooking putting up swing on oak tree in 1990.then found old Horticulture magazines while sorting out slide carousels to use for talk- Bob Harter had wanted them so I called and invited him and Sue up for Sunday afternoon. Mary stopped by with more woes. Auto withdrawal of her insurance premium wasn’t transferred and notice sent to her of “insufficient funds” (because National City Bank chkg account was closed) So I wrote a letter to Westfield Insurance and she stayed for supper of ham and mashed potatoes, apricots and coffee. Started on gardening talk for Monday.

Tuesday January 19th
Got my micron computer hooked up, but moved printer to old computer temporarily. Added letter numbers to the LC book and printed out 90 pages

checked Marion bank and Dave’s first check has come in for $3,000 so we can both relax sent him an email.
To program committee meeting to plan 30th anniversary weekend with Madge [Cooper] and Jane [Rupp].
Then board meeting new trustee Don Alspach and Louie Conkle there.

wonder what they thought of Richard carries presiding I spoke against putting elevator project on hold so vote was to put it on hold for a month. Why does Eula have to take the opposite side on anything I propose when we have $90,000 for the elevator why hold it out to buy the YMCA that may be available in four or five years and hot and wouldn’t be suitable.
Clinton on TV giving away “surplus”
Couldn’t bear to watch the liar- under impeachment and bragging about his “state-of-the-nation”!

Monday January 18th

Spent most of day adding 1883 Marion county history info on 96th OVI to Lucius Carhart letters at appropriate places.

Birds notably fewer and skinnier )they really puff up when it’s cold)

Took computer to Pete Lakaris and waited while he debugged it. Need a Windows 98 boot disk and then a McAfee monkey virus disc (can download latter through internet.)

To gateway smorgasbord for Huber association meeting – (I miss Willis Nye at these meetings – ate with Donna and Dick Lawrence and Dick shared his great-grandfather’s civil war career (Teamster) – No progress, and it is pitiful to see Stan Wink chair a meeting but he deserves the presidency for all he does with his hands. – Don Keil didn’t shovel out a path to mailbox but was waiting for me to call him to help me.

Laverne Lash died of cancer and was buried this morning.

A whole new group of trustees- seem to be mostly steam & gas engine people that I don’t know!- William Kay Davis Trust gave EHMA $5,000 at year-end and have over $2,000 in checking account.

Sunday January 17th
Used floppy with Ray’s poems on old computer to add verses to databases and then put it into Micron before I turned it on but virus was on old computer and I lost system again – will have to go back to Pete Laskaris.

Was shoveling ice off driveway when Bob and Caroline Brooks Trimner arrived to see some of Ray’s poems – Had only met Bob once when he was here for a carol sing in early 70s – He’s an artist but very sensitive to interpretation of Ray’s verses. Wanted to know all about him and I ended up spilling my life story that I don’t think I ever discussed with anyone before – People either lived through it or wondered about me!
Enjoyed the three hours with them. Copied several poems for him and gave him a DBY* to read. I wonder if I should write another one. -Bob wants to buy the first published book of Ray’s poems.

e-mail from Brent – they spent all Saturday at OHS and got gobs of stuff – sent me article about attack on Mrs. Christian from Mansfield papers that caused about 20 negro families to leave Marion in 1919.

Called David but he’s in Indiana playing on a riverboat casino – Karen concerned for Harvey – his doctor said he had diabetes but he doesn’t and it’s better since he got off diabetes medications.

Between time chipped away at the ice layer of driveway and have blacktop mostly bare. Male cardinal flew into kitchen window and Bob found him dead on the snowbank.

Saturday January 16th
Royce got stuck in snow on Williamsport Road and didn’t get here until about 10:30 Mary came out with 229 East fairground register book and I made copies of her 1995 records for our income taxes then wrote letters for her to Provident Bank who holds loan on her car. Say she is delinquent and she has cancelled check – when she called them they wouldn’t listen just said she had to pay – so I wrote letters.
Sorted out some of Ray’s poems for Bob Trimner to see tomorrow a lot are good very good but many are trivial it would be difficutl to write 3000 masterpieces.
No word from Brent and his companion Julie she’s delightful.

Friday January 15th
Wrote check to IRS for $2,000 for January estimated payment and $200 for Ohio estimated tax.
Checked both bank checking accounts – no deposit from Dave – Picked up around the house called Charlie Evers but he hadn’t heard from Brent for a couple of weeks – at 3:00 had a call from him.- was at Heritage Hall – Went in and we found Star newspaper account of Bell Rose Scranton’s murder after checking with City Hall for death date – January 29th 1919.

A negro was arrested and later released triggering unrest.
They left about 5:30 for research in Columbus tomorrow OHS.
Home about 6:00 roads not too good.
