Monday April 28th
David at shop at 10:30. Followed me around on a typical day- salesman, checked in merchandise, advertising copy to get ready, lunch with mother, mail to go through. Showed him books back to 1958 when Hemmerly’s did $48,000 a year. Do that most months now. And some months more.
Dinner at Lan-Jar Restaurant at corner of Oak and West Center newly-opened by Helen Loudon. Don’t order chicken breasts!
Typical evening at home after walking around Pond. TV and popcorn.

Nice little 15-minute ceremony taped by WMRN. About 20 people there. Drove mother through Vernon Heights & Chateau Ridge to see the Forsythia blooming everywhere. Howard and I cleaning up in woods when Del Goff and family arrived in their motorhome. By family I mean 15 people. Everyone of his six kids and grandkids and 2 in-laws! Toured the grounds and they came in. Kids all well-behaved.
Mary called from Kathi’s. Got there about 8 and will stay until Tuesday a.m. and go to Richfield Utah then.

Brown wedding at First Presbyterian. Rev Urkquart mellow. Told Bill Hoover about his dream. Since everyone wants their “loved ones” kept dry after death he dreamed he had invented a system to keep the body at an even 70° so they would also be warm. In his dream he was all ready to market it!

Thursday April 24th
Karen and kids left for Columbus right after breakfast. Linda visiting so they went to visit Eric. David had a typewritten proposal ready showing how he could manage Hemmerly’s by commuting in company own airplane between Marion and Cincinnati. Even had a 10:00 flight scheduled to show me a plane! I would not go! Showed him how he could commute with two trips a week. He made $10,000 last year at Market & about $4,000 playing so has to do something to support his family. I had offered him $20,000 to manage Hemmerly’s but not on a part-time basis!
Went to Cincinnati Nature Center and hiked down to River and back up. My mind not really on nature!
Stopped at Swallen’s and used all my cash to buy film and then realized I had no credit cards to buy gas. Back to David’s he not home so asked Motzers to cash check for $10. Home about 6:00.

Met Mrs. Hutchins- speaker on “Odd Birds.” She was Mary Southern Cincinnati radio personality of years ago. David playing with big band at jazz club Blue Wisp on Madison Road. So we stopped there on way home. Kids in bed and me to bed on sofa.

Sunday April 20th
Cleaned area around the pool before going to Fanny and Floy’s 60th wedding celebration. Picked up Veva, flowers and mother and met Loren and Jessie about 12:15 at The Freight House Restaurant in Forest. After eating drove around Forest. Constant stream of people from 2 to 4. Fanny is so pretty in a long pink dress and Floyd in a new suit. She brought pictures to display in a gorgeous 1900 album. Sat with the Zimmerman girls and Verdie Baker and they held court and introduced me to all the relatives. Met June Hemmerly Messenger, Harold Hemmerly daughter. Conrad Hemmerly granddaughter. Home through Killdeer Area saw some geese and coots but no gosling’s yet. Forsythia gorgeous all over town and here at Terradise. Early daffs out. Barbara Boggs called she and Don took Hemmerly’s truck to Ann Arbor to pick up seven pieces of Victorian furniture for Mrs Lutton. Needs upholstering but Barbara says it is valuable stuff.

Mrs. Neva Jones here at 8 to finish cleaning. Wants me to get someone else as her knees hurt. She’s 78! Picked up in woods with Howard for half hour. Don Shuster called, Agnes’ brother in hospital so won’t be able to come to stay all night and go to Fanny & Floy’s reception tomorrow. Not busy at shop so after wedding appointments went out with Lynn O’Dowd to finished shooting Old Village Marion. State & Main streets. To Neva and Jim’s[Harris] to see Glenn and Mildred Patton. Everyone talking at once instead of listening to Glenn and Mildred. Mary Jordan had quite a tale of Marilee being visited in hospital by parole officer from Florida to apprehend her for parole violation. Confused with Mary Lee Augenstein who is in Marysville Reformatory. Call Mary at Walt’s in Mesa Arizona 100 degrees out there today. Our 73 was first it’s been above 70 since last October 22nd
