Larry Ervin, friend of Fred Somerlot, in to deliver. Seems pretty level-headed.
Erma Campbell in with indexing and took more that I had edited.
Met Carroll and Virginia Howard at Turoff’s at 6 to plan preservation workshop. Also newsletter content and January 31st program. When Mrs. Jones stopped by our table she asked if I was going to travel series! I had forgotten, but picked up Mary and we enjoyed John Roberts on Norway- must see “Legoland”. 4 below zero when we came out.

Snowed all day total about 6 in. Took dirty dishes from New Year’s Eve out of the dishwasher and washed them as the starter switch is broken. Fried Chicken for our 2:00 dinner and then started retyping and rewriting histories. Called David when I found Violet Gladiola Gillespie, who married William Rose! He had Sarah out on her skis and she said “Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus would be very proud if they could see me.” Typed in till 8 and then edited till 12:30.

Nobody spoke to me when I came in to shop. All pouting about no raises and cut hours. Worked on inventory mostly from invoices until time to go to wedding at Emmanuel Baptist at 1:00. Donald Kuhn’s daughter. Finished inventory, stocked shelves and worked some on history.
Stopped at Mother’s on way home from wedding.
Delivered wedding to Oakland United Methodist at 6:00 and then shopped at Kroger’s. Home, worked on editing. Read.
Laura cleaned up the wedding room and her odor was so bad that when I had a wedding appointment there about an hour later I could hardly stand to breathe.
Lillian left for Pompano Beach, Florida with Edna Hatfield for 3 week vacation.
Barry got a job with Servex so won’t be able to deliver.

Library board opened bids- Trinity $125,000, a group of men Guerlinger, Courtney, Courtright, Lloyd Johnson Jr. and Siemen- put in a lease bid to turn it into a supper club! And the Historical Society $1 bid for 5 years, which they laughed at.
Cheryl brought the wage schedule in for raises. I said there could be no raises with an $8,000 overdraft at the end of December, but that hours would have to be cut.

Monday January 1st 1979
Howard helped me take down Christmas tree. Had to go in to the shop to make 3 funeral pieces for Merle Kirk. Delivered them and made call and then to Mary’s for dinner- sauerkraut and beef! Mother there too. To hospital to visit Paris. He was propped up- good color, good spirits. Says the spot on his lung the size of a nickel was malignant but Dr. Herring says they got it all. Also visited Faye Garverick who is in with exhaustion. Harry, her husband, there for a knee operation. Home about 4:30 after shopping at Hills. Bought aClairol mist hair curler. Worked on editing until 12:00 after spending three hours sorting slides for wildflower talk tomorrow.
When I got home I decided to try to bring up some of the wood the Garvericks and Everhart’s cut last fall. The ground seemed frozen, so decided to drive Olds down and load up. When I got down I saw that water was too deep to get to the wood and couldn’t get the car back up the hill- too slippery. Ralph Boger came and offered to bring his tractor but Kazees (who said they couldn’t come) got here before he did. Cost me $10 for being stupid.
