Up at 8:00 bath and orange juice. Kathi tripped over dishwasher door and fell on floor so hard Bob said can’t use dishwasher until plumbing under house is checked.
All loaded into Toyota. To store for house paint (stain) then to the Clarion Hotel on Lake Spenard for brunch. Had a smoked salmon egg omelette croissant. Mounted specimens of Alaskan Wildlife impressive. To Spenard Lake behind Hotel watched mallards and Canada geese with chick scalp, widgeon, Northern Grebe. Float planes rim the lake. Each worth about $100,000 used!
Then drove to Elmendorf Air Force Base. Shopped in gift shop for sweatshirts, mugs, laser Art “Thank you for not smoking” Etc $46. Kathy and Bob bought me a uhe knife Hulu (Ooloo Eskimo origin). Through Fort Richardson to Otter Lake. Immediately spotted pair of common loon and two chicks. spent leisurely time watching them. 2 pair of Canada geese and their families. Northern grebe. heard eagle. ate snacks. On way back through wild area of Fort Richardson Kathi spotted a mink near a pool. I wanted to shoot the Lupine and Arctic roses so prolific. As I composed that I noted female mallard in pool dashing frantically back and forth. She suddenly took off and flew right at me and I caught glance of a chick at the edge of the pool. Then almost at my feet the male appeared and took after the duck, who flew up the stream squawking and darting with the mink after her. In the car we drove to where we could see the pool and the duck came swimming out of the shadow and rounded up about 10 ducklings. To Sands for marinated chicken dinner.

Sunrise 6:00 eastern daylight standard time
Up at 7:15 breakfast on Deck with Howard after bath. Sprayed most everything with Spray-Gro Bi-catalyst. Finished packing camera and personal. Mary arrived with Geneva and Mary Ellen N at 10:45. By 10:59 we were walking out door. Went back for Sheepskin coat to take to Kathi’s. poured rain as we got to I-71. The airport at 12:15 in the air by 1:00 incredibly green landscape like Ireland, but soon in clouds. Hit southeast edge of Lake Michigan and flew up the lake then inland to Minnesota. Seat mate lives in Muirfield Village, but belongs to Marion Country Club and is Tom Coons wife’s boss! Looks like Steve Kesselman! Short two lunches because two women’s tickets were marked June 20th one for my seat! So nice man and I didn’t have lunch. Marked our boarding pass for lunch in terminal and since he didn’t want his he asked for Mary’s boarding pass and had it validated. Agent of Northwest waiting at gate for us and put us on electric cart from gate 44 to gate 11 must have been a half mile! Scattered clouds all across North Dakota, Saskatchewan and Alberta but got exciting as as we came up east side of Saint Elias Mountain and began to see glaciers. Moved to right side of plane for spectacular view of Mount Elias range and Grace glaciers and ice fields. Magnificent. On our side clouds blotted out Prince William sound. Now descending into Anchorage a blip on the radar screen! 5:07 PM.
Kathi met us & home for dinner- roast in a bag- in their beautiful home. So many new prints framed and hung. Rooms so spacious. Petunias, trilliums, pansies blooming so big. Bed while light. Kathi has done so many nice little things to make us comfortable.

Mailed letter to Field telling them I don’t want payoff. Stopped at shop and offered suggestions on new sign. Don’t think mauve a good color to get attention. Bought picture frames for Marilee’s graduates and took them to Mary Jordan to deliver. Left Center key at Mosher’s as Ruth will be there next Wednesday without me. Took material back to Sarah Henry- had loaned me Irey Halt’s story of life in Claridon in early 1900s. Took money for Scioto Ordinance Plant book from Hemmerly’s to John Cottrell.

4/10 in rain
June 17th sales of Cockshutt model over $10,000 during Steam and Gas Engine Show.
To Fairgrounds at 11:00 to take my stint at the EHMA table until 4:00. Harry Bird in charge of selling Huber things but he had a wedding. Worked with John Heimlich (not a member), Norm Vogt and Ray Bails. We were next to huge Cockshutt 580 that was prototype for our 1/16th scale model.
Mike Deitsch in charge of those sales. Don E. Yoder and four of his kids enlivened the atmosphere in their Amish dress. Coloring Book Sales not as good as I expected. probably should have had 200 printed instead of 1,000!
David called to wish me Happy Father’s Day. He will be up June 25th to mow and check on Howard.
Looked over Dave Sheely’s figures on taking payoff from Fields on Normandy property. Would cost me $12,000 in Income Tax Plus the $8,000 I’m already paying. So I don’t want it paid off.

3/10 of an inch rain since 7:30 yesterday.
Rain all morning so Ray Foertsch didn’t come out as planned. Good thing as it gave me the day at the computer. Made labels for Helen Kaufman from last year’s Fall Fair thank you letters. Wrote Huber minutes. asking County Commissioners for $7,500 to pay Jack Telfer’s salary and letter to accompany to all commissioners. Happened to open file from June ‘88 where George Snyder said he wouldn’t go back on his word and give MCHS of community block grant funds- $10,000. So sent copy of it to Kirk Moreland with a reminder that he told me he supported County History (before he was elected).
As a result of all this I have packets ready to go to Charlie evers, Helen kaufman, John Watkins (Huber minutes), Don Harriman (Threshing Day map with label fixed with meeting info), Lucy Wood, news release and updated schedule for Fall Fair Horticultural show. Notes to Paul, Ida and Ruth Hableutzel. They each go… [no more entry]

Made no cook freezer strawberry jam. Howard cleaned three quarts. hummingbird using nectar feeder on side porch 3/10 of an inch of rain a.m.
Made strawberry jam AM- goofed up the measurements so hope it came out okay.
Howard recently had $1,000 returned from IRS on income tax and then got letter asking about $1,000 paid in 1985 and $1,000 paid in 1986. He just sent those checks but didn’t file a return!! Said he had been doing that for about 5 years and they never questioned it before.
Richard Frankaviglia called about John Steinholz inquiring about changing region 7 March 31st, 1990 meeting at Sharon Woods because of conflict with Ohio Museums Meeting in Cincinnati. Decided to hold firm on our date. Called John.
Compiled itinerary from info Kathi has sent. Took copy to Hemmerly’s to make copies along with letter to craftsmen for Fall Fair and Huber minutes. Virgil Hinamon followed me to Inskeep and left my car for oil leak repair tomorrow. Borrowed shop station wagon to take coloring books to Fairground for Steam and Gas Engine Show rest of week. Gave Willis Nye his gratis coloring book and copy of minutes.
To bed early 9:45
