Walt was to meet me tonight to go to practice for the Banquet and when he didn’t show up I was worried. About 8:15 he came and Bob Haldeman, Louis Woolem and Bernard Brooks were with him. We drove around in Bernard’s car and then went to the Dutch Cafe where I had my first taste of gin. And I don’t like Tom Collins. Danced with Bob and Bernard. Tried smoking in the car but I couldn’t see anything in it. Too old-fashioned, I guess. Louis is still the same. Got home about 10:30.

Walt came over to see Daddy when he came after me and decided to go home with us. Mary described the ring she wanted if I hadn’t already bought. And she said the one I gave her was just like it. Hope she really liked it. Waltl went to Milt’s to stay all night.

Wally met me after work and we shopped for rings for Mary. Today she is 16. Finally found a decent one at Rogers. They have to make it bigger so will I will get it for me tomorrow.
Finished the print blocks on my quilt And laid it all out and figured the color scheme. I’m afraid putting it together will be a mess.

Wally finally told me where his mother is. I think she’s treating him terrible.. She has $500 debts that she expects him to pay. So I see where if I ever thought of Wedding Bells they won’t ring for four or five years.
I read several letters she had written him.
