Trella Hemmerly – 1935-01-20

Sunday, January 20, 1935
Up at 10:00. Took a N. Fourth car to Aunt May’s! Good dinner and then we looked at quilts. I decided to make a flower garden and Floy gave me some pieces. Uncle Allen’s dropped in for a few minutes. Roy and I went to 10th Avenue Baptist Church. Wally met me afterwards and we took her to the streetcar line. Then to Rev. Wiley’s for Fireside Hour. Walt didn’t stay when he brought me back home. Told me something about himself [shorthand]

Motor freight went pretty good. All checked and entered. Ready for M.J. bills.
Messed around this evening. Am reading the daily bible reading in Genesis. I understand hardly any of it. Also reading harvests. (?)
Add a bath. Like my new PJs fine.
Had nice telephone visit with Wally. He got some new suede shoes.

How I hate to get up in the morning. Bill dictated on and off all day to day. Just barely got started on Lane Motor Freight.
Snowed for a while but it’s turned into rain. I wanted to go to the show but I suppose we won’t. (Went “Jane Eyre” and “Servants Ed….)
Got a nice letter from Marjorie Dickey and wrote one to Bob Cameron.
Read it in the Marion news in Dispatch George Mason dropped dead Monday night.

I’ve developed a fine cough. Hurts, too.
Bill Enright abused me all day ’cause I can’t multiply. I guess I am pretty awful but arithmetic never was my strong point.
Mrs. Haldeman was down today and she and Walt came down at noon. But we took a walk while I ate. She had been to Lowell’s but I guess nothing has happened yet.

Up at 10:00 AM meant to get up earlier. Daddy mother and I went to Ware Roberts’ farm where daddy has an acre rented for dow use and Lydia lives. I sure do get moody. Mr. Roberts showed us his home. Electric light and running water – all conveniences. Got tunic pattern from Mrs. Fred Smith. Cut it out.
Daddy, Mary and I went to the Marion a western “I was thrilled to my toes.” Fun once but not for a steady diet thanks.
