Monday May 31st Memorial Day
David’s family are painting his house Dave has left Kathi’s for a week of caving in Nevada and Utah and Johanna flew back to San Diego.
I was so glad when Don Keil called saying he would be right over to put mower deck back on tractor since I had left car door open and battery was down. He brought son Gary visiting from Virginia Beach and they got both fixed. Swept out garage- ran sweeper- made bean salad. Cleaned up greenhouse benches. Bath and washed hair. Martha Kostenbader brought Lisa Roecker and granddaughter Kathleen and June Lyon came over from Mount Gilead. Short trip around house. Talk in gazebo, Mary came out. Kathy and Martha translated for Liesel. June stayed for me to print out pics for her at 5 p.m. to Marcella Haldeman’s for dinner with Martha, Lisle[sic] and Katl (Wolfgang’s daughter.) Home about 8:15. Watched Antiques Roadshow.

Saturday May 29th
Set out Elephant Ears that I had started in peat in the greenhouse. One in pot, one by side porch. Moved other half of Summer Fragrance Hostas to patio bed. Watered. In at 12 to Harold Bosch who wanted me to see round balls with holes around them and a tomahawk stone. Had found them in his fields. Gave me a cane. Met Mary at cemetery. Took porch box of geraniums and petunias. She brought me a hamburger to HH for lunch. Found Jacob’s Well file in Charlton Myers material. Also got July 3rd 1937 star Hines article- not factual! But Helen Collin Connelly’s description of finding it is convincing. Home at 3:30 and fixed watermelon to take to Roecker at Heritage House Mount Gilead. June Roecker Lyon’s guest. Louisa Roecker from Germany there and Harald Roecker from Wisconsin translated for us. Served Pizza! Talked to Marie from New Zealand born in India home at 7 p.m. Very tired.

Thursday May 27th
Call from June Lyon. Liesel Roecker has arrived. Reunion is Saturday.
Wrote DBY article on Marion county cemeteries and sent to Marion Online.
Watered Hosta and everything else. Planted urn on high deck. Marion County road crew ate lunch across the road and came over and asked names of bushes and flowers. They also ground up all the multiflora rose and grapevine that Don had cut. Don came about 3:15. Used weed eater everyplace. Even on the clumps of grass in the juniper on the front bank. And then he sprayed walks with weed killer. I mowed across road and pulled belt and spring off mower part. So Don had to take it off tractor but didn’t have time to put it back.
Kathi called- expecting Dave, Johanna and their two dogs in from San Diego.

Tuesday May 25th cool 50’s 2” rain
Don hauled composted manure to lower terrace I dug Hosta from several places- we both dug and pulled weeds and ended up after three and a half hours with a totally replanted terrace- about six kinds of hosta. Rested and bath. Had found it was the black cartridge I needed so still couldn’t print out garden photos. So bought black on way to Pam and Dave Miller’s home for garden tour. Fabulous. Business meeting on patio and dessert and slides in house. Buchart Gardens is about as far above Miller’s garden as their garden is above mine.
