Friday October 22nd
Only Fred Sr. working after 10 a.m. He cleaned up all of the aluminum siding and hauled away. Living room gable 3/4 finished. Picked up George & Altha Sifritt at Days Inn motel at 2 and we toured Marion. Prisons along Williamsport Road, Kellogg Parkway and two new companies being built to manufacture parts for Honda, Hemmerly’s Flowers, Heritage Hall. Judy Maxim and husband there to see me. Mansions in Southeast Marion & across Barks Road to “Something Good Restaurant.” Call from Darin told him I’m undecided on tree.Robert Keller, Francis and Sally Roush, Mary J and Margaret Ludwig joined us. 6 out of 270 to graduates in 1933. They will start for New Hampshire in AM. Home at 6 TV and nap waiting for David and family. David and Sue arrived about 9:30. Showed new videos using laser box- great resolution.

Thursday October 21st
Took 22 DBY with me for the participants in the 1999 Marion Leadership Training class. Heard part of Randy Winland slideshow of his Marion postcard collection of over twelve hundred cards! Gave my “How We Came to Be” talk and lots of good feedback. David (history professor at Heidelberg) introduced me as Trella Romine whose name is synonymous with Marion County History! Stopped at Hemmerly’s with Campbell’s Candy and assorted a box for Christmas gifts. Home by 12 and Royce and I brought yard sale stuff from attic and started setting up garage. Mowed lawn. Took a nap. Call from Altha Sifritt (George- class of 1933) just in from Manchester New Hampshire 900 miles invited them out for dessert with Mary and me. Lots of WWII Seabees memories D-Day invasion. They left about 8 just when David called. Whole family will be up about 8:30 p.m. tomorrow. I’m beat.

Wednesday October 20th
Call from Larry Ballinger at 8 that they would be out to put in new glass pane in living room picture window- seal broken and it’s cloudy. While removing from truck they cracked the corner but installed it until new pane comes in. Don Keil out- rescued stone from under new deck and dugout area for new entrance patio. Decided too big a job for him so went to Whetstone Gardens and they will give me estimate $650! Scott measured for new shutters. Decided on a dark green but not the blackest one. Into Sims to leave recyclables. At Wolohan[?] found balusters that are similar to gazebo panels. To Nicholll’s and changed chair I had picked up to a plain dark green with more classic linen. To Nu-Supply and ordered tile and carpet. Bought “soft sand” shade- Madeira pattern $15 sq yd.
Met Mary at Steak and Shake just opened near Meijer. Picked up prescriptions at Meijer- Fosamax, Premarin and Q-Z throat relaxant. Dave called about 9:30- he and Johanna will arrive Columbus on November 18th.

Tuesday October 19th day 12 Covered annuals 34° last night but impatiens not frosted.
Crew finished west end of siding and started above greenhouse. To MCHS board at 7 found out the leadership session where I speak is this Thursday not next week! Gave nominating committee report. All re-elected but Helen Kaufman new. Gave report on HPEF and elevator fund balances. Conference with R. Carey after meeting on committees for 2000. Home at 9:30 and rewrote Pride Membership draft from Jane and emailed it to her.

Monday October 18th day 11
Fred Sr. and Jr. at work at 7:30 a.m. on garage end of house. Decision on width of board outlining gable and above garage doors and color- white. Printed out pictures of Sergentia Crab to show Wade and Gatton nursery. With Mary headed to Campbell’s Candy at Sandyville. Over $400 order! Bot pie at Troyers in Apple Creek. I bought a 14 lb box. Stopped at Walnut Creek Cheese for cheese, popcorn, pudding & Trail Bologna and chicken salad and lunch. At W&G Steve took us to staging area and found a lovely Scarlet oak (q. cocochina) bought an anemone- white Dallas size bloom. Home at 4:00. West end almost sided and new round attic vent installed. Covered impatiens and some marigolds as frost predicted.

Sunday October 17th
Sent pics of front of house to all family members. Dark green or brick red shutters? MA and John Penry out with three boxes of family photos and “treasures”. Lots of leads and photos. Mary out with pix of her apartment building for Scott to see divider board between two floors. No word from Scott Crider on promised sketches. Call out of the blue from Dale Rish- Orange Florida- Hurricane has his TV out so he was renewing contacts with class of 33. Talked for 45 minutes! Interested in what’s going on in Marion. Told him a proposal $76 million of State money for new schools- subject to passing of levy to finance $16 million

Four “customers” in RC. Interesting 3 hours. John S. Riley- Pleasant School- Common Pleas Court Case!!?? etc. Sold 2 reprints of 1907 Marion County History and one Jim Thorpe. Took printouts of Romine and Clore to MargaretAnn, but not home. Picked up Campbell’s Candy check at Hemmerly’s- food at Wendy’s- ate with Mary- bought camera bag at Meijer $12.95 half price.

Finished siding north side. Took out wall air conditioner in my bedroom Jack and Jenny Telfer over to check progress. Ok’d my choice of slate tile flooring. To Iberia “Eileen’s” for supper with two Mary’s. Wrote up minutes for HPEF trustees meeting.

Thursday October 14th 42 to 58 degrees Called at Denzer for Allen Callahan Juanita Plotner husband
Siding delivered. Don Keil helped me clean out northeast corner of utility room so outside faucet can be moved. Old one is now under new deck. We also planted Pawpaw and Burr Oak seeds across Road. And Quince and Peach seeds and a seedling Walnut. Finally set out anemone and great [?]angetisa[?] plants that OSUM Prairie gave me.
Finished format Terradise Nature Center & Endowment Fund documents and mailed them to Hap Dowler. Also took him a printed copy when I picked Mary up to go to Palace to see Irish dance tap dance group- great- 14 in company including Barry twins- home at 10:30.

Men only worked until 1:00. Rained at 4:00 – 1” – wind. In at 11:00 to Dr. Nowacki. Told him I was cured. No swelling- no hurt in left knee. But he wants another X-ray and December appointment. Shopped at Aldi’s and took a 60th anniversary book to Hemmerly’s for Tara- Diane and Mike’s daughter. Worked on Terradise Nature Center documents until 12. Picked up “slate” sample and herber[?] carpet at Nu-Supply and paid rest of Bordeaux carpet- $700 total.
