Trella Hemmerly – 1979-01-23

Tuesday January 23rd 1979
David over to Reese’s for bread and milk and Warren gave him his sausage recipe. Had some for breakfast. In to Molly’s for a permanent. $25. Back out at 12 and got lunch. Looked at David’s books on Vielhauer. Doing better now. But still can’t tell him anything. He didn’t even know that a sole proprietor pays a larger percent for Social Security than you pay as an employee! If he would only take advantage of what I’ve learned and would so gladly share. They left about 3 and stopped at Bonded for $10 gas on my card, at my insistence. I bought $20 meat that he brought up and gave him $35 for his birthday. Why do I have the feeling he wouldn’t come up except for what he gets out of me? He never shows any physical affection for me anymore. But I feel that Karen puts me down all the time and it is bound to affect his feeling for me.
In to the shop and it was Bedlam under Dave’s supervision. Clara Gillam in working on filing thank goodness! Work on editing until 2:15 am.

Trella Hemmerly – 1979-01-22

Monday January 22nd 1979
Sarah and Jed slept in my room (Kathi’s room- I always give David and Karen my bed because it’s bigger) and Sarah got out of her sleeping bag and in with me because the house and furnace creaked. After breakfast David and I took her out on skis and she learned to lean forward so she wouldn’t fall. Woods so pretty with snow. Temperature about 28.
In at 1 for wedding appointment. Girls had everything well in hand. Very busy. Kaumeyer from Randall in and ordered quickly. David went to Bowen house while I did. Took deliveries on way home. Sandwich supper and Eric [Bob Erickson] picked David up to go skiing. Gave him $10 for the lift ticket.
Karen and I watched TV while I worked on editing. Popcorn about 11:30 just as David arrived home. Bed about 1.

Trella Hemmerly – 1979-01-21

Sunday January 21st 1979
Spent the day getting the house in shape for David & Karen’s visit and getting things ready for supper. Mary out about 3:30 and they didn’t arrive until 5:30 after Paris and Helen got here.
Had the filet mignon that Belli gave me for Christmas with baked potato and asparagus casserole. Baked David a cake (his 34th) and had candy mint ice cream which he didn’t like.
Mary and Paris and Helen left just after Bill and Erma Hutchman arrived. Had a good visit with them and kids behaved fairly well. Jed of course is never any problem except when he is hungry. Finished up the cake and to bed about 12.
Mary watched Super Bowl. Pittsburgh beat Dallas 35 to 31.

Saturday January 20th 1979
Took check to post office for postage for bulletin mailing. Very busy day and when we totaled it up Mary and Tonya each over $400, Dave $388 and Laura $225! About $2,000 total for the day.
Wedding at Greenwood EUB, so after I got it set up I went to visit mother. The temperature was 41 degrees but she insisted the streets were icy and when I said they weren’t she said I never agreed with her on anything. Later Mike was up to pick up artificial trees and she told him I hated her.
Don and Jane Quaintance in and selected 8 artificial trees ($350) for New City Hall. The designer had tried to get $160 per month contract to maintain live plants!
