Trella Hemmerly – 1979-02-06

Tuesday February 6th 1979
To Betty Swanson’s and paid her the $35 we collected for the 10th birthday cake. To courthouse to give John Cottrell receipts and discuss how many books to order. Worked on book all day except time to go to City Hall Municipal Court offices to see what they need to liven the place up- no windows. Clara worked from noon. Got mailing ready to former history purchasers and area newspapers and radio stations, but didn’t have it zipcoded so had to go pick it up.
First day I’ve heard birds singing. Titmice here and Cardinals in Marion. Also saw crows on way to work and Chris saw a robin. Also walked out of work at 6 and it was still daylight. Went up to see mother and took her tape of Historical Society meeting but she wasn’t interested.
Worked all evening on abstracting information on Boyd Funeral Home property from Alexander Berry, through Eber Baker, George Kling, John Lust, etc.
David called about his health records. Autopsy on Benjamin showed he had kidney formation that leads to cancer.

Trella Hemmerly – 1979-01-31

Wednesday January 31st 1979 [10th Anniversary of Founding of Marion County Historical Society]
To Dr. Mike Brown about my inside heel ache. He says both feet probably have Spurs. Took $50 X-rays and go back next Wednesday.
Clara helped me take stage setting for tonight to OSUM. Supper with gang and then to OSUM. Betty Swanson had delivered cake. About 50 there, very good for a cold wintry night. Charlton Myers and Richard Carey reviewed their years and Carroll subbed for Carl Lehner and Oliver Hamilton for John Geer. John Cottrell gave review of book sales- over $7,000 profit on 3 reproductions. Gary Barnhart had gifts on display and gave Old House Group report. Everything went snap snap snap until Richard Carey gave his and told us about the LI-BARY.
Wheeled the cake out and the president’s lighted the candles sold chances on centerpiece and got enough to pay for it. I donated centerpiece.
Ate with Carol and Ellen and planned publicity strategy. Home at 12. Letter from Professor Jumalong so appreciative of tape and magazines.
