Pick canteloup, cabbage, beans, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers & squash from garden. Down to 36 last night but nothing hurt but African Violets. Boiled down tomatoes for catsup. In town after school cause David broke frame of glasses. Mary Jordan here tonight.

Wrote Nature article for Girl Scout Trefoil [magazine]. In at 1 to meet with Executive Board (G.S.) & Florence Jones at Hotel Harding for lunch. Put ad in Star for Chev. & card of thanks. Appraisers here (Bill Hutchman, Milford Hazen & B. T. Pritchard) when I got home. Got out 50 poems. Ironed.

Answered Baker’s letter & one from Esther Weakley. Rained early – then cool & high winds. Weeded iris & set out some from Greenwood. Folks & Mary & Rocky out this P.M. Ironed.

In about 11:00. Dug iris at 552 North Greenwood & planted some in garden & took some to Erma Hutchman & some home. Got 2 cases pop.* Daddy got Nash – $4.35. Drumm offered me $500 on Ray’s car. Ironed tonight. Bed 11:45.
[*We always bought our pop (sodas) at Barq’s Bottling on Rt. 4 just north of the current Rt. 423/4 split. Some of the flavors were Root Beer (still made!), Whistle (Orange), Bubble-Up (like 7-up), and my favorite, Scream (red pop) – slogan “Scream for the Best!”]

In at 8:30 & off for Newark with Mary & Rocky. Stopped to see Mabel Penny & Aunt Olie Soliday (age 92). Then to Dawes Arboretum & saw only part of it. Crabs outstanding. TO COlumbs for Parade of Homes. All in 10 to 15 average class & nothing unusual. Home at 8:00.

Wedding OK. Roseberry appointment about Galion wedding. Went to Beach’s about mattress but decide against them. Corsages – Shopping with Kathy. Accelerator pedal on Nash broke. Had to leave at garage. Visited Hutchmans & Daddy brought Kathy & I home.

Cleaned some – In at 10:30 to do small wedding. Did collecting for shop in P.M. Got $35. Home to get kids & supper then back to do Endicott wedding for tomorrow. All night at folks. Took kitten in with us.

Another beautiful day. Phyllis Kile over for supper & all night. Kathy got a trumpet from Lockards*. Daddy & Bill Byrd brought load of stones out. Typed up some new batches of poetry.
[*Rev. Lockard was minister at Caledonia Memorial Methodist Church. Kathy played the trumpet through high school.]

Potted African violets & Sansaveria Hahnii. Dad & Cora Romine out in P.M. Gave Dad Ray’s electonic razor & some toilet articles. Deysons out to fish. Mrs. Deyson & I went across river but no pawpaws. Mary Jordan & Nancy out tonight.

Daddy & Mr. Deyson out to get Ray’s TV to take in to Dad Romine – & part of bunk beds to make Grandma Sheneman more comfortable. Worked on poems. Got out nearly 100 – some seasonal stuff Ray had marked. WOrked on correspondence this evening – Paid Axe $760.
