In to Rockport Tex about noon. Learned the boat “The Wooping Crane [sic]” left the Sea Gun dock at 1:30 so got right up there. Boat full of birders & a check list for the area in the cabin. A 4 hr. trip and saw 16 Whooping Cranes on the Aranansas Wildlife Refuge along the Intracoastal Waterway. Sunny – but cold. Many many other birds – Gulls interesting.

David took me to Columbus airport – had a stop at Nashville & tried to call all Nashville Hemmerlys but no one home. Kathi & Don met me at Dallas – went to Gift Show & did quite a bit of buying. Then drive to Wichita Falls in the moonlight.

Kent sauntered in at 10 & ask to speak to me privately. He said he could not work where his authority was questioned so he was quitting. I told him I was glad as it saved me the trouble firing him. Supper at Gretchen & Monk McCurdy’s.

Hintons out to pick up bunk beds from shack & one of Ray’s overstuffed chairs for their daughter whose house burned. As they left their car wouldn’t start, so I was just ready to push thekm when Henry Nickel came over the hill & skidded into Hinton’s car. Almost hit Charles Hinton! But my car not hurt. I went on in to see Fred Landis – salesman & then to Beauty Shop. Quest CLub in evening. Mrs. Ferriman on Navajo Indians.
