Left kids in bed when I started for Columbus about 8:30. Good board meeting- both Regional Affairs Handbook and standing rules adopted with a few changes. All committees functioning well. I didn’t intrude on 3:00 training for regional reps. Found Dave and Dee in cafeteria. Mary and Geneva Brewer brought them down about 1:00 and they spent time in museum.
To Port Columbus by 4:30 for their 5:30 flight to LA via Atlanta. Hard to see them go!
I called Voissart Plumbing early and Dave reported that water was flowing again but when I got home note from Howard said no water it comes and goes.

Dave and Dee packed three boxes and my biggest suitcase to take back. Many things from his black box including photograph albums that Kathi prepared for him when he left for Don’s at age 14.
He is so dear to me. Still a little boy in a few ways but struggling so hard to be a man. Tries at least when I’m around to live up to my expectations.
Had to meet group from Union County Historical Society at Heritage Hall. Dave and Dee went to Logan County to see Ohio and Zane Caverns. Then met kids at Heritage Hall and gave them the tour.
Mary ordered pizza and we ate at her house and visited.
Dave and Dee stopped at Lovell’s- Amy and fiancee were there will be married November 4th

his was the work day that Dave promised me. He got Shrubbery along Road and dragged it across the road. Dee is a real worker. Swept gravel from road resurfacing off both driveways and cut off black-eyed susan plants.
We dug out the 10 Savin junipers along driveway walk and replanted in lower terrace. Then planted Siberian Juniper and potted moms under the silky dogwood. Hauled several wheelbarrow loads of mulch.
Felt satisfied at accomplishing so much- things I can’t do alone.
Quit at 3:00 to get ready to go to Cardington- Al’s Restaurant to meet Mary Hecker and Mary and Carl Jordan. Nice visit with them.
Watched Kathi’s videos of Halibut fishing near Homer, Alaska. She has some beautiful shots.
No water from faucets at 6:00 p.m. and Peacock Plumbing went out of business at 5:00 p.m.! No plumber until Monday.

To Cincinnati with Mary, Dave and Dee. Arrived about 12:30. Took David and Karen to Gold Star Chili for lunch. Waited for kids to come home from school after taking Dave and Dee seven miles up the little Miami for a canoe trip. Dee’s first.
Took kids to Carew Tower (downtown)- 47 stories up to Observation Tower. Beautiful clear day. David’s interpretation of geology of area is so helpful.
To River to pick up Dave and Dee- they had a nice trip down. Dinner at Haldeman’s was birthday celebration for Jed and Susannah so had tiny links and cheeseburgers and broccoli, artichoke casserole. all delicious. Gave Karen $100 to eat in rather than take them to a restaurant. I don’t believe they had any money at all.
Gave Suzy the dolphin from Alaska and Jed the jigsaw puzzle map of Denali National Park.
Dave drove us back and was home about 11:00 p.m.

Woke up with bitter dregs of Olgua’s behavior nagging at me. Mary took them [Walt and Olgua] to the airport this morning to fly back to Phoenix. I feel sorry for Walt- can’t be easy to live with that kind of vindictiveness. Mary had her car damaged by man running a stop sign as she returned from airport. I guess we’ve seen enough of the Walter Haldeman’s for a while.
So great to have Dee and Dave around. She’s finding everything so different than California but professes to love it. Took a long walk all around Terradise- made Grapevine wreaths on site.
Dave wanted to have Chinese food in Marion. Had a good dinner with Mary and then her house.

Royce here to clean and get bed ready for Dave and Dee.
Mary came out to see them when they got here. Plane in at 5:30 and still not here by 8:30 when phone rang. it was Olga asking for Mary. When I tried to talk to her to see why she was calling she wouldn’t talk to me. although I had nothing to apologize about I did and it was thrown back into my ears. Walt and Olgua had met Dave and Dee at airport and took them to MCL Cafeteria and then to Bill’s [Bill Lynn, Olgua’s son] in Caledonia even though Dave told them he wanted to come here. But they had sent Janice to Bill’s to have an excuse to go there. When they came out to bring them over here their car wouldn’t start! Poetic Justice! So they had to call Mary- her car wasn’t here! They did get Bill’s car and brought Dee and Dave here and Olgua was very rude to me. Mary and I think all this is repressed jealousy from many years. Spoiled Dave’s homecoming.
So glad to have kids here. We hugged and talked and soon forgot Olgua and her problems.
