Trella Hemmerly – 1978-11-07

Tuesday November 7th 1978
Voted- chance finally to vote against John Isler who gutted the courthouse back in 1975. Whole crew and working on 5 funerals. Most of it done by noon. Called Karen Hardwick. She has no time to contact businesses that haven’t submitted histories. So I wrote the letters and sent statements to 20. Took history orders to John Cottrell. Shopped at Foodland. Watched election returns on TV and radio. Larry Adams beat Isler by 1000 votes! Sheriff’s Levy defeated and was Scheiderer mad. Sorted out history notebook.
Kass, Laura and I called on Lil’s mother Mrs. Risch at Denzer’s.

Woke to WMRN news with my recording about workshops. Picked up typewriter and books at shop and was at Trinity by 9. Carroll there to help me unload. Ann and Ken Buehlman helped set up room and Al and Barry arrived with photo stuff. Suddenly the rooms were full of people with stories, with ones needing typing and ones with photos. Tom Bain in his element meeting former students. Mary and Geneva getting dinner ready for tomorrow kept us in coffee. Had a snack with them in my Junior Department room*. Finished about 4. Sorted things out at office. Carroll stop by to take me to dinner at Isaly’s for birthday.

Vivian [Vivian Adams] called to wish happy birthday. Mary gave me Bulova digital watch!
Kathy woke me at 8:30 with phone call. Talked to her and kids. Steve was moved to Connecticut hospital but Inge didn’t meet him because her father died and she was in Germany. Howard had subscription to “Country Living”, two little log cabins and two place mats for my birthday. Barry took shop photos at 12:00- all 18 of us. Then the big surprise- a potluck lunch that covered all of Laura’s work table. She gave me five Kodak mailers. Letter from Uncle Allen with his biography and Grandma and Grandpa Sheneman’s rewritten. Larry Mathiot interviewed me for WMRN again. Got driver’s license renewed. Home at 5 and BBBV, Carl and Mary and Mary Rockwell waiting to take me to Malabar Inn for dinner. BBB gave me a printer’s tray.
