Monday August 1st 1977
Wore my barong to service Ann Vaflor’s wedding- all the men in barongs and Mrs. Vaflor in native dress with butterfly sleeves. In true Philippine fashion everyone arrived at last minute. Not many people there so I urged the reception helpers to go up and fill the pews.

Sunday July 31st 1977
Howard erected the post for the school bell. Dug a hole 3 and 1/2 feet deep at edge of patio. Now to get the bell on it!
I painted railings on Deck with oil base Redwood stain.
Baked a frozen apple pie for Walt [Haldeman], Olga and Janneice, who are visiting in Marion from Arizona for the summer. They came about 7:30 and we took a Woods walk. Mary, Rocky and mother out about 8:45 Mary had gone to church. Nice evening of visiting.

Saturday July 30th 1977
Mary Welker handled the five weddings makeup great. Laura is not going to get the wedding department job. She is too valuable for other design work which Mary can’t do. I serviced three weddings. Grocery shopped two bags full was $23!
Paul Monnette started on roofing house yesterday and worked all day today.

Friday July 29th 1977
Called David to tell him about our hospitalization insurance rates. But they were having a barbecue for Linda [Meister] and fiance and the Meister’s & Premingers so didn’t talk to him.
When I got home from wedding the post with the “harp” for the bell was lying in the driveway. Loren had been out evidently.

Thursday July 28th 1977
Mother, Mary, Rocky and I drove to Paulding County taking the Lima, Melrose, Charloe route that Grandpa and Grandma Sheneman took in 1874 to the farm Grandpa bought in 1872. No path through woods, no wolves, no school in Blue Creek Township where he taught! Found deed in courthouse & many entries of purchases and sales by Emanuel Mechling- Grandpa’s Uncle. Grandpa sold the land 40 acres for $1,200 in 1879 to Theresa Fischer (is that where we got Aunt Theresa’s name?) Flat country- all drained- no more Black Swamp. Stopped at Ada to visit Gaile and Faye Zimmerman. Full of old pictures and family stories. They say I look like my grandmother Sarah Baker Hemmerly.

Tuesday July 26th 1977
First day for 33 days not to reach 80°.
Took paint back for house and got $103 back. Had five wedding appointments today. The one for 1:00 didn’t come until 1:30 and was a slowpoke so I had the 2:00 and 3:00 in office and showroom. Felt like a doctor shuttling from room to room. Last one was Ann Vaflor and Mother and Dad. They are from Ilailis Panay and know Vero Palermo and Edgar Buenacuesco mother if she is a lawyer!

Monday July 25th 1977
Howard says he’ll finish painting if I’ll get rid of Mark and Al. Mark and friend spent 4 hours painting half of deck. So I paid him off another $44 a total of $144 and all I got was the house scraped which it didn’t need with new siding and the garage doors painted.

Sunday July 24th 1977
After breakfast of rolls, coffee and the cantaloupe Carroll bought, he and I started home at 9:30. Stopped in Fremont to see tornado damage- really hurt many old buildings and iron fences. Stopped at his house to see the treasures he has saved from old Marion houses.

Saturday July 23rd 1977
Set up Emmanuel Baptist, Central Christian and Emmanuel Lutheran and set up and serviced Oak Knoll Baptist before picking Carroll Neidhart up at 3:30 to head for Lakeside.
Dinner at hotel- board meeting and then I watched sunset from pier. Gorgeous cerise colors. Walked around and met Careys, Gary Barnhart and Carroll and I had ice cream. My roommate is Isabel Stump with Marge Williams and Kathleen Harruff next door.
