Trella Hemmerly – 1977-08-11

Thursday August 11th 1977 [at David’s in Cincinnati] rain 7 to 10. Watched Finian’s Rainbow on TV.
Slept on sofa in living room and Sarah woke me at 8:30 with her cooing. Not a sound out of Josh all night and he was so good at concert. David and I had headaches. He gave me the original and copy of the Marian 1976 film. Must be shown on a sound projector.
Shopped at Beechmont Mall. Turn lights and air conditioner fan shorted out, but got new fuse at filling station. Back at shop at 2:45. Laura working on corsages and Mary on funeral but I felt too lousy to straighten them out. Slept till 5. Pat Johnston called and they found $1,000 but need $500. Called Kathi. She was in pool- talked to Bob and Kristi.

Bob Johnston Jr in- wanted to borrow $1,500. I told him I needed all my money for house siding and roof. Did finally get enough money in to pay me for last two pay days that I missed.
To David’s about 3 and arrived at 5:40. Via Route 42 and 38 to 71. Stopped and got corn on way. Karen just home with kids from Symphony committee meeting. Had corn, chicken and eggplant on patio. Then to concert in park directed by Dr McGinnis. David played in a trombone trio very well too. Showed movies and Linda’s wedding. She didn’t even look at the groom when he kissed her.

Took mother bouquet of pink roses and set out chrysanthemum plants at her back door for her birthday. At 5 went back and got her and brought her to the shop until 6 when Mary and Rocky came by and we all went to the smorgasbord for dinner. John Peacock stopped by our table. Always interesting. Been in Owens Valley California hunting down elm bark beetles.
Kathi called shop at 6:25 and Elenor took message- her new address and phone number.

Sunday August 7th 1977
Laura called. She got home Friday night- her house had been ransacked- sugar, syrup and flour poured on furniture, things stolen. Happened Thursday night and police have two of mark’s (her 17 year old son) friends. On Saturday Rhonda trying out a friend’s car hit a man trying out a car from Dixon Toyota! Both demolished
Howard and I trimmed bank by river and he cleaned set of steps. Baked chicken and stove top dressing for supper.

Saturday August 6th 1977
Set up First Presbyterian, Emmanuel Baptist and Pleasant Wesleyan and serviced two. Took Mary Wilker to Emmanuel Baptist and showed her around. She did a great job while Laura was gone and deserves to have the wedding department.
Had 9 funerals on the board and made 60 pieces, but only one spray. Everyone worked on them from 3:30 to 6:30.
Howard* got the Bell hung. Got a block and tackle from Ralph Boger and hoisted it up. Sure has a pretty ring.

Friday August 5th 1977
Took wedding to St Paul’s Lutheran it had been canceled but they didn’t tell us. 90° humid.
Spent whole day on Historical Society work- typed dummy of program book- listed all receipts and expenditures for year to get ready for budget committee meeting tonight at shop. Hal Boncutter in to confer about program book. I had gone to deliver a 4 p.m. wedding at St Paul’s Lutheran which I’ve been called off, but they didn’t bother to tell us!
Meeting lasted until 10:30 with Richard Straub being his usual obstinate self. Carroll, Dick Carey & I to Isaly’s. None of us had had supper. Had another interview with Jalaire Carver. She wants $3 an hour starting. I said no.
