Trella Hemmerly – 1977-08-29

Monday August 29th 1977
David and I in at 10- had Al Cohen from Lion Ribbon in. Had our shareholders meeting very informally and he left for Columbus and I followed in my car. Met at State Library and did genealogy research. Just at 5 found 1840 census with Conrad Hemmerly listed for Columbiana Co. Didn’t have time to check on family or other names.

Sunday August 28th 1977
Got table set and most of dinner ready before David got here at 3. We walked in woods and found Sycamore across River that I heard crash last night. He seemed to enjoy being here without his family sort of unwinding.
Had ham, chicken, sweet potatoes, zucchini casserole, salad plate and Mary brought cake. It was for Mary Jordan’s birthday. Bernard more like himself. Mary brought old fireworks and we set them off on patio. Nice comfortable evening.

Saturday August 27th 1977
Big steam threshing at Mautz farm on 423 south of Marion. I took color prints and movies between weddings. Carroll* in his element. I got burned with clinker when they were stoking boiler. Got descriptions on tape. Reporters of Dispatch and Consumers News there.
David called saying he’d be up tomorrow.

Trella Frances Hemmerly Romine and Francis Hemmerly, August 22, 1977

Karen cooked Vielhauer bacon and scrambled eggs for leisurely breakfast. They left for Cincinnati about noon. Took Francis and Stella the shop into Harding home. Then to visit mother and then to Harding Memorial. Out here for corn, ham and zucchini supper and Stella said she enjoyed it more than the reunions dinner. All tired so to bed early.

[Added later: ] Letter from Stan Quickmire’s secretary. He died on August 16th after two heart attacks. Felt the loss greatly.
