Baum family in to sign lease for 418 Merchant. Brent and Kathy and Brooke and a boy three. Very clean-cut good people. $250 with $100 deposit.
Lillian and I with Cheryl and Terry Knapp to Ponderosa for steaks and then Lillian and I to Palace for “Doctor Zhivago”. I had seen second half on TV but wasn’t prepared for the beauty of the filming from what I saw on TV. Very moving and not a sound in the theater during the whole movie. Saw Barbara and Al Tracey there. Raining when we came home.

Worked on minutes and program book for Historical Society all morning. Made chili from tomatoes Kuehnle’s gave me. Howard and I along County Roads to cut Goldenrod, Queen Anne’s Lace and Bittersweet. Late Frost killed most Bitter Sweet blossoms so not much to cut.
Wrote Kathi, Uncle Allen and Lucille. Watched “Washington Behind Closed Doors”- too near the truth of the Nixon Administration to be anything but chilling!

Totaled production and no one did over 12 orders for $110 value each. Looks like I am over staffed.

Plants from Jones and Scully, Miami Florida arrived yesterday and Dave and Randy unpacked them but it took all day to get them priced and placed in showroom. $662 + $122 freight- but we can give good value and still sell them for $1,700. Dave and Mary still working on them when I left.

Howard painting cement block foundation on greenhouse when I went on deck with breakfast. I planted two more seedling black walnut trees and transplanted Christmas cactus to hanging pots.
We trimmed hemlock trees on front Bank down to 8 feet. Some were at least 10 feet in 8 years from 2 foot trees. Trying to make a hedge out of it.
Hot 85° bath and washed hair and looked over and sorted genealogy material. Called Kathi at 10. They got home about 7 their time from Memphis. Had a good time.

Laura spent two and a half hours making five or kinky sausages. I sent her to make dried arrangements as we weren’t busy. I serviced two weddings. Mary Ellen and Norm Withrow’s daughter. Did their wedding years ago.
Laura upset because Dave wants Monday off every other week. She wants it off every week!
Thelma James in to interview for job. Husband left her after 40 years. Very emotional. We’ll use her about 20 hours a week.
Wrote Davy about his broken finger. They are in Memphis this weekend visiting Bob’s folks.

Worked on genealogy all day putting collected info on individual family sheets. Found notes David made from Wyandotte County records showing that David and Sarah Baker Hemmerly had two children who died in infancy. I had never heard of them. Made a total of 11. They were also named Blanche and Frances! But died before a year old.
