Called Edgar in Manila at 9 a.m.- 10 p.m. there- to tell him to ship to Jim Ermatinger- San Leandro. He was so glad to be able to send the baskets. Will try to get them out to arrive San Francisco by Saturday or Sunday, but his export license has expired again.
Shop not busy except one day while I was gone. Mail piled 12 inches high on my desk.

Walked part way to school with kids and took pictures. Kathi took me to airport for 10:00 flight. Two hour layover in Dallas, but not long enough to go to Gift Mart. In to Columbus at 4:30 and Mary & Rocky and mother there to meet me. To Forum Cafeteria in Worthington Shopping Center for supper. Home just at dusk. Howard has everything shipshape.
Beautiful flight clear all the way and good seat in front of plane. Letter from Edgar no way to ship without someone in San Francisco.

Monday September 26th 1977 temp 98 Degrees
Too hot to go to State Fair like Kristi wanted. Drove to east side of town to visit Katie Price. How 2 people in wheelchairs maintain a home and garden like that is a marvel. Through center of Oklahoma City- lovely plazas- elegant buildings- mostly government and banks and some slums. East of railroad to Historical Museum- talked to guy whose father was a homesteader in the run of ‘92 and who grew up during the Dust Bowl era. Capitol built in 1917 very classy took to her. Went to pool with kids for swimming. Dave later opened a neighbor’s screen window (Venzudaus) to look at toy- an international incident! He spent evening in his room. Packed.

Saturday September 24th 1977
Late breakfast has Bob likes to sleep on Saturday. Davy and Kristi in pool for about 5 minutes. They both swam underwater well. Started for Great Salt Plains Wildlife Refuge 150 miles north about 12:15. Vast rolling plains, most fields plowed, some wheat up, some cattle and more trees than I expected. Sand roads into salt beds and saw my first scissor-tailed flycatcher! The salt flats are just that, with selenite crystals just under surface. Spent about 2 hours- lots of small crystals and some driftwood. Roadrunner, rabbit and along Lake- later 8 or 10 deer. White birds- black wings long lines over Flats- Pelicans ? Walked 1 and 1/4 miles Eagle Roost Trail. Left 9:15. Home 11. Bath, Kathi washing crystals bed.
