Trella Hemmerly – 1977-12-15

Thursday December 15th 1977
First day since December 5th that streets have been clear of ice. 300 poinsettias in from Lakeview so have most of them in now. Poinsettia’s everywhere. Have sold most of the poly Christmas foliage off the “Merry-Go-Round” so moved it out to make way for another poinsettia display.
Sue moved to Marion on Leader Street Monday. Today she told me they are moving to Florida. Her husband going down this week but she will work through December 24th when he comes back for her.
To Quest Club Christmas party. Received my usual note paper in the exchange!

Sunday December 11th 1977
Called David a.m. and they aren’t coming for Advent as he plays till 4 p.m. and it is still working on new meat market.*
Sue Swartz’s uncle plowed out driveways $10. Finished candied orange peel and spiced nuts and stuffed dates for Advent sing tonight. In to shop to pick up things. Paul Dasher there checking on leaks along back of building. Took ceramic Christmas tree to mother but too much snow to bring her out for sing. About 30 here. Mary Jordan had 13 and her family three of her great-grandchildren including Joseph 5 months. Carroll Neidhart and Myrna Snow new ones and Marilee’s son and sons-in-law. Made mulled cider which will become a tradition. Geneva Brewer played piano and Bob Erickson played flute.

Snow 6 inches. Driveways plowed shut by road crew so I stayed home. Mercury dropped to zero about noon and with 20 mile per hour winds made it pretty cold shoveling. Ensminger from Bucyrus here to tune piano- $20. Sent Edgar bank draft and letter. Got out to Caledonia post office to mail. Spent evening just clearing out accumulation of papers etc.
