I paid on my sewing machine and got my hair set this morning.
Put on Mary’s overalls and went to the garden with she and daddy. Planted about 2,000 gladiola bulbs and radishes, beets, parsnips, carrots, onions. Really worked. Harrowed the field with Bindley’s truck. Took a hot bath when I got home. Slept all evening I was so tired. And sore. Went to bed early.

Daddy, Mary and mother came down after me this evening. The sun was so pretty in the clouds going home.
Put my clothes to soak and oiled my hair.

Got a letter from Helen Wood last week asking if she could ride home with me. I told her yes but got another one today saying she was going home with Chet Evans.
Went to Vera’s. We surely had a nice visit. She sells dresses and we looked at them. They’re pretty high for me. Her husband fixed popcorn with ?gosgy[sic]. I got to talking about the hurricane and it was 11:30 when I got started home. They brought me in their car.

Took a walk up 4th Street and found a pretty ravine about a half-mile up. Walk all over this end of town, and then to church. Avey, history Prof at State talked. It was a regular history lesson.
Fireside hour wasn’t so hot without Mr. Wylie. Stopped at My Krantz for soda.

At least Bill thinks I’m worth more than $13 a week. And he’s trying to get a raise for me. Says I should have it within a month or two.
Met Wally. Bought a blue sailor felt hat, blue purse and blue gloves. Wally bought me a rose. Also got some little cotton pads, hankie, candy, fluffy chicken for Mary, hose and came home completely broke. Put olive oil on my scalp for dandruff.

Took only half hour for lunch and got off at 4:30 so I can get ready for the banquet. Called a cab to take me over cause I had my long gold dress on. Walt met me at the church.
Nice banquet. I wasn’t a bit scared when I gave my toast on Rain. Wally gave one on Insects.
Walked home in a drizzle. Wally stayed until about 11:00.

No more overtime per Kavanaugh and JLD. I guess I’ll just let my work pile up and see what happens instead of working my head off.
Pressed my gold dress for the banquet, studied my toast and read. Haven’t heard from Walt -the sap. He might let me know his plans.
