Monday, August 13, 1990
Rain
Slipped at crest of driveway while taking letters to mailbox – Landed flat on my back – Left elbow swelled immediately & lower bottocks took the brunt of fall.
Drove to Cols & State Fair not knowing whether arm was broken. David got ice from lemonade stand & it took down the orange on my elbow.
Videotaped all 4 kids in clothes Karen made in Style Show in Women’s building. Sarah took my breath away in her fuscia & black moirie formal with spike heels – Hair upswept. Josh non-chalant in his turtle neck & trousers that he will take to France in Oct. The four took about 8 prizes – $75 – and all outfitted for school. David drove my car to Cinci while Haldeman’s – Harvey Meister & Linda & Kaitlin from CA went to Eric’s in Gahanna [actually Reynoldsburg] for dinner. David & I to FoxPro porgram. All got to Haldeman’s about 11:00.

Copied tape for Warren Robert’s Estate Sale to large format according to Kathi’s help on phone & using my instruction book. Easy!

Mary out at 2 & we entered more bricks on brick.dbf
August 9, 1990
Mother’s 100th Birthday [died 1983]

Mary & I had dinner together at Turroff’s courtesy of Mother (229 E Fairground rental fund) in honor of her birthday.
Worked on brick data base & Huber Newsletter all morning – mowed front lawn with push mower – Martha Neville sent sugar cookies.
In about 2:30 & picked up July & Aug checks from Hemmerly – also payments on $5,000 note – to HH & Ginny telfer stopped when driving by – Jack had viral pneumonia settle in his heart causing fibrillation. Can’t leave hospital until get it stopped.
Mary came to HH at 3:30 to help me. I had successfully changed data base fields & merged both files. Felt proud of figuring it out.
Grocery shopped – Browsed Brick.dbf for errors before printing out.
Called David to tell him I had sent Huber Newsletter for converting to Ventura Publisher.
Iraq has accessed Kuwait. @50,000 US troops headed to defend Saudi Arabia.

Copied my Warren Roberts sale tape for Ruth Foos.
Took Howard to grocery & then drive past Claridon Prairie- denoted species blooming. Mailed slides & letter to Charlie King about silene regia . Copied to Tommy Hemmerly. Answered letter from Glenn Patten about PO & CDM*.
To HH at 2:00 to meet Cindi Noyes with her poster concepts for Fall Fair. A couple of them possibilities – her chg would be $30 for camera ready.
Worked with Mary H re-entering Brick data base through 690. After she left at 3:30 found a disk with entries through 680 – all we thought we had lost that far.
Took car to Tuffy Service catty-cornered from HH – they said only needed oil change – $16.00 – Handy
Met with Helen Kaufman at 4:15 for 2 hrs. Laid out committee assignments under the 4 function plan – Education – Membership – Operating & Finance – Added Legal affairs.
Stopped at Wendy’s for supper & then to OSUM Prairie for Marion Nature Society Tour led by Tabor Allison & he’s good. Dick & Mary Cooper there. Concerned for Dave with Iraq crisis. Told them about plans for Terradise with ODN & OSUM. Grocery shopped at Big Bear – Home at 10.

Did 2 loads clothes. Letters to Dorothy Isaly & George thanking for support on book by paying extra $2 for their hardbounds. In to HH where Mary met me & we worked on brick.dbf until 5:00. Then she started to my house to cook sweet corn while I copied map for Biological Survey & King letter. When I left building I forgot my purse – Had to call Dick West from Tuffy’s Car Service across street to come back to let me in. Had to wait while he ate supper. So Mary wondering why it took me 45 minutes to get home.
Had corn, Wendy’s baconburger & bean salad. Then we worked on bricks.dbf for about an hour.
Watched – Hiroshima-Out of the Ashes on TV – From Japanese perspective – chilling.
