Tricia Valentine & Bud Sawyer of Local History Office here supposedly to plan Brass Tacks workshop on computers. But Bud had it all outlines – But discussion (held on Beech Deck) took all morning. Swerved them quiches for lunch & then to computer room to ‘hands on’. Tricia counseled that we not get too technical. She left about 2:00 &* Bud about 3:30.

Madge 1 hr
Pair of great crested flycatchers by side porch.
Across the river for buckets of top soil. Also transplanted another pawpaw tree & smilacina recemosa and the candelabra plant that I think is a hyssop. The blooms on the pawpaw tress are in the hundred. Counted 200 on one tree.
Stopped at Reece’s for bread for Howard. Mother’s Day cards from Kristi & Kathio & Kathi’s account of their SE Utah trip – handwritten. So decided to put it in WordStar & print it out for her. Her 19 pages took almost 3 hrs with corrections. Then worked an hour on Madge’s family history.
Mowed the laower lawn &* in fron of house finishing about dark.
TV- Watched stupid movie Big Business – Bette Mitler & Lily Tomlin. How old is Tomlin? She’s been in TV forever.
Transplanted 2 sugar maples from flower bed by egawa across the road on the lot line of lots 2 & 3. Fire last spring killed 2 tulip trees that planted about 6 years ago – 3 ft. high.

48-73 Sunny
MCHS 8 hrs
Worked from 10 to 3:30 on minutes of last Exec Comm & MCHS Board Meetings.
In to Hemmerly’s &* took lily of valley – Then to HH – Jackal had delayed meeting to get report from Ohio Edision on payback & getting new electrical system into building. 2 400 amp systems instead of 900 AMP – inefficient – cost over $7,000 but should reduce electric bills that are running $800 a month. Will insist it include a separate meter for Wyandot Popcorn Museum. Ann Bush insisted on another estimate – good for her. Also decided to give job of wall covering in harding Room #3 to House of Design – $135 higher than Howison-Howard but theirs had a 25% discount that was questionable.
Bfst on deck with orioles singing.
Shopped at Odd Lots & got 2 flats of flowers – petunias & impatiens – $18. Got Howard a dozen Pilot Rolling Ball Precise [pens] – extra fine – Am writing with one of them.

70 AM – 62 PM 40 night
MCHS 3 hrs
Since Sunday most of trees have leafed out – Oaks are ‘size of squirrel’s ears’ – time top plant corn, but most fields still wet & little planting done. All pink crabapples have dropped petals.
Started out to plant prairie seeds across road but diverted to transplanting ajuga to bank above lower driveway. Bonnie Bell called offering to bring video tape she made for Regents of Ohio State University on the Marion Campus Prairie that features me with Dean Hazard. So I called Mary to come see it too. Bonnie wrote & produced it & it has a great script. Everything about Marion Co. Prairies. She left me all the originals that has more footage of me.
Martha Neville called saying pussy willows have rooted. Took her some snowflake bulbs.
To Marion Genealogy Society to present possibility of going to meet at Heritage Hall & assisting MCHS in research & library. Looks favorable. Mary traded her Honda mower on a Honda hydroStatic.

Madge 5 hrs
Madge Guthery Marshall out to bring her Family Story – Toured the upper garden before getting to work. She has about 30 double spaced pages. Writes wedll, was an English major at OSU so shouldn’t be too much editing. Also got info on her for nom, inating her for Ohio Historical Society Trustee. She was born in 1910 – hope her age isn’t a consideration.
Worked on the manuscript for 3 hrs after she left at 1:00.
Eating quiche lefer over from Monday.
Got a bill for the Air Cleaner* $395 + tax ok but why $10 delivery? David brought it up.
Picked a bouquet of violets, about 100 & of lily of the valley – over a hundred. They scent the whole house.
Planted the whole basket of pansies in the tub by side porch.
[*Electrostatic Ozone Generator to remove odors from Howard’s soiled bed linens]

44-65 Sunny Windy
EHMA ½ hr
Set out the 10 seedling trees from Arbor Day Foundation – red, sliver & sugar maple, red & pin oak, dogwood, redbud, tulip, red & white pine. Nursery row in prairie area. Too tired & too windy to plant prairie seed over there. Set out basket of pansy plants in barrel by side porch.’
Move rolling file by my chair & sorted all current files into it. Will be handy there.
Wrote letter to Dave & Dee, Catherine Thornburg & Fields. Send them original of their note – had given them a copy yesterday. Update Huber dues records.
Swept living room & mopped kitchen to get ready for Marion Nature Society. Only 8 here – nice walk in woods. Rich Bradley hadn’t been here before & Amy Tovar kept saying ‘It’s so lovely.’ Bill & Erma Hutchman & Ed & Becky Lux & Mrs. Little and instead of Jennifer Winsall – Guy Denny, Assistant Chief of Div of Natural Resources, showed up to give the program – Great 2 projector slide show on the State Nature Preserves. Then Guy responded to questions on cuts in Div problems. All over by 9:30.
