Inauguration of Obama
While sorting papers for MCHS 2009 Notebooks I watched the ceremonies and activities of the Inauguration of Barak Obama. ½ black – first of his race to be elected president of the U.S.
Lots of hope and support shown buy the crowds that filled the Mall in front of the Capitol.
Called Gators towing to jump start Prius – Pd $25 – To McDaniel Toyota where Walt Steward had ordered a new 12 volt battery but since it won’t be in until tomorrow so they loaned me a Toyota Corolla – spoke briefly to Jim Waddell, mgr. And David’s school mate at Caledonia. He asked about David & Kathi.

To Marion Bank & deposited Birch check for 4 Hemmerly Genealogies that I have ready to mail.
To Meijer groceries $30 – Used the self-serve check out with no problem but didn’t realize I left my purse on the belt until I got to HH – Lugged in the box of notebooks. Galed called Mweijer for me & they had my purse at customer service – I was too upset with all this (and DOug Ebert & Valenda wouldn’t be there for orientation) so told gale I would be excused – Picked up purse on way home after I haiold men walking by to show me how to get Corolla started.

Prius dead battery
Called Service at McDaniel Toyota ‘Walt’ – ordered new 12v battery $150 – Late tomorrow or Wednesday.
MCHS downloaded financial reports.
Dec exe minutes – Calendar – Agenda 1/20 needs additions.
Finished collating C’mas letters – sorted into 4 groups.
Gale here for supper – I made om,elet but she chopped the bacon & cheese that made it special & fried it.
Discussed MCHS business for tomorrow night’s board meeting – Will have ‘Schools’ for sale – 6:00 training session for Doug Ebert & Valenda MacKay.

SDorted my Christmas Letters 1965-2008 by date – E-mailed David D – Enjoying Lure of the Abyss – & Ed Lux asking for 2008 Killdeer Plains C’mas Bird Count. When I came from office about 3:30 both of my driveways where completely shoveled. Called David M – ‘Yes’ – why didn’t you come in?’ ‘Thought you were napping’!

David, Karen & Bob Hinklin to Terradise after Memorial Service at Presbyterian Church for Rita Erickson. David shoveled out driveway but found Prius wouldn’t start – SO I didn’t go to the Erickson home on Cambriodge Ave to be with the family.
Started reading Dave Decker’s ‘Lure of the Abyss’ – His caving adventures from 1985 with Gaylinn Ginn to a return to it (Buckner’s) in 2007 – David H was with him. So graphic- well written, descriptive – and his knowledge of geology – worldwide – Tasmania- Kuala Lampur, Australia, Belize, British Columbia, California.
Sorted through my Christmas letters to compile my ‘Travels’ for autobio- I was a real gad-about – Hawaii- Germany- Ireland- Switzerland- Italy- Panama- Columbia- Peru- Argentina- Brazil- Philippines- Florida- Arizona- California- Maine- New York City- England.

So I didn’t get my hair cut & didn’t have supper with the Carpenters – To mail box about 4:00 PM – check from Lynn Birch, Logan NM for $120 for 4 copies of Hemmerly Genealogy.
Letter from Eugene Sheneman – I had sent him copy of my diary when he & Uncle Meck rodwe from Orlando to KY with us. He didn’t remember it – 96 – poor health – Aksed about Mary-
Gas bill $700!-
Spent most of the day copying news clippings from scrap book that Kathy compiled in 1970’s. 1989’s. Made copies for Rita Erickson’s family & Erma Hutchman.

E-mail from Hartman – books ready – Willis & Gwen Thomas arrived about 1:30 to bring me the first copy – Willis paid extra to have Title, Author printed on spine. My gift to you for all the work you did. I was so pleased.
Compiled data on Residences & Affiliations & sent to David H. Working on Travels & Awards.
Call from Kathi – checking on my weather. Told me of plane crash in Hudson River caused by flock of geese – all survived.
President Geo. W. Bush Farewll Address from East Room of Whitehouse – in High Definition TV on my old TV set.

4 in. snow all day
Sorted a shoe box of newspaper clippings that mother collected in 1960’s & 70’s. Some real gems – lots of obituaries – MCHS – Hemmerly’s Flowers – will use some as headings for my DBY.
Fed birds twice – Shoveled path to mail box. SOng & Chipping Sparrows joined regulars.
Jim Carpenter called to verify I planned to come to his mother’s house Friday – I said OK
WIll send the clippings of Joe & Eddie Sheneman military careers to Mary Grey Ham- Eddie’s daughter.

To HH for Exec meeting – one hour spent on 2009 Budget – $8,000 deficit!
Gale wants to omit purchasing City Directory (Polk – $200) for 2009 to sAve money1
I said let’s contact lawyers.
County commissioners cut our funds to $10,000 from $13,000.

Willis Thomas picked me up at 1:00 & we drove to Hartman Printing to see sample of his book ‘Schools’ He found a few changes to make. Will fix & e-mail to Karen Hartman tomorrow. Books printed by next Mon or Tues!
E-mail from Lynn Hemmerly Birch – descendant of Mactellus Hemmerly through Charles, Mac & Robert – She had called last Oct but I couldn’t understand on phone but gave her my e-mail. She wants to buy 4 books – I need her address!
Sorted some of the autobio files trying to consolidate to one folder-
WIllis shoveled snow from porch, steps, walk & driveway & stopped at Kroger’s in Mt. Gilead so I could shop.
