Madge Guthery and Eula Watts came in as I was leaving, but they only stayed a few minutes.
To see Judge Charlton Myers. When his three daughters were there on a Monday I knew he was nearing the end. I took some Civil War letters of Lucius Carhart & read parts to him. Also working for the plaque honoring him for his library & proceeds from Tales of Sage of Salt Rock for equipment. He had ready to give to me for MCHS an envelope with 2 (1/2 lb. each) keys to the 1833-84 Marion Courthouse. Told him about marker we are putting up on Radnor Road for 1812 Blockhouse. He remarked that also nearby was a child’s grave. Nothing wrong with his memory. He was referring to Ashbaugh girl. Then he said he had something he wanted to tell me. That he would no longer bhe taking the shots for ___ (he couldn’t remember dialysis until I suppled the word for him). But when we talked about his reading Declaration of Indepence on Fourth of July he said ‘I sure will’ Th en later he asked me how many times (3 times a week) he would have to take them to live until then I could have very easily broken into tears. When I told his girls they said it was out of his decision because his blood pressure is so low the veins won’t carry the load – Sad day.

Had bkfst in gazebo.
Worked in garden all day – pulled most of the daisies & bishop’s weed in bed by the gazebo. Frank Sloboda & friend Jim came with a pick-up load of aged horse manure – had an “unwinder” that eased it out of truck – $65 – mowed lower & upper lawns.
E-mail from Kathi – Bob not able to stay at cookout neighbors had for him more than an hour. She sent “11 yr olds answers to science tests” – hilarious.

Picked up dividend check from Hemmerlys – not $5,119 (gross $6,750) deposited at Marion Bank. Will use it for Ireland trip.
Expect Donnie over all morning but he didn’t show up – dug out huge clump of Johnson grass “mother roots” & hauled cartful to burning pile.
To HH – put title strips on Howard Mitchell “My Story” & he came in for the extra page on Luther & Hattie Hammer Smith family – I pasted it in our 20 copies. Used new computers with no problems.
Met Mary at Friendly’s Restaurant – after we went to Sears to price “portable” luggage – too pricey – did buy a weatherproof taupe jacket $40 marked down from $80.

Accident on E. Center Street as I was driving in to HH – man in front of me stopped when a woman in front of him turned into a filling station – smashed in the lights panel. Got acquainted at Police Station while waiting for paperwork – was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance. He said it didn’t seem fair that I should be cited when he caused the accident – I felt the same – Went to Resource Center & Margaret Littell – brought membership records to check over mine & Bill Schertz was coming in to check brick records. Then to Fair Vision to have lens re-inserted. Called Jim Co & McDaniels & Bennett took car to McDaniels body shop & they would loan me an Olds 88 rental. To Meijer – waved stuffed peppers. Shopped at Meijer – bought a print polo shirt & groceries.
