To Heritage Hall & started putting Civil War letters in archival sheet protectors. DIck Carey in & wanted me to approach Charlton’s girls about anything that might be given to MCHS. I told him Charlton had given enough!
Me Mary at Perkins for supper. Stopped at Meijer – go dates to take to Lamb’s as gift.
Andy Kazier’s mother (who is she?) cornered me as I went to mailbox & talked for 45 minutes so I missed call from Al Potts – has started research but he’s on wrong track – doing Wetzels!

Friday, June 19, 1998
Call from Dave Murray ordering 1 doz yellow roses delivered to home of Charlton in memory of his sister Lois, judge’s secretary for 30 years. Had to order from Columbus.
To Emmanuel Lutheran Church for funeral of Charlton Myers. Open casket at rear of church – closed & procession to alter during Pastor Wolfe’s service. Sat with Richard Carey & he rode to cemetery with me. Told me Judge told him he selected lot at West edge of new part of Marion Cemetery so he & Warren Harding could converse.
Back to church for lunch & goodbye to Becky who said it was up to me to take up Charlton’s mantle of Marion Co. Historian.
To HH & checked Caton’s Civil War history (one of CM’s books) for collaboration of Lucius Carhart’s letters. Donna Lawrence in & found new material in CM’s files.
Worked with her past 4:00 & missed date with 2 Mary’s to eat at Al’s in Cardington.
David called – he’s researching Ireland destinations & getting really excited. They are going to Ashland KY tomorrow for Brass Band Festival & to W. VA Sunday and maybe Monday.
Boyd employee told me he was interviewed by Carl Anthony & Carl twisted what he said when Carl repeated it back to him.

Thursday, June 18, 1998
Royce cleaning. I was supposed to go to Heritage Hall to meet Craig Schermer – Harding collector – but too busy.
To LeSalon at 1:30 for permanent – ate at Dairy Queen.
Mary called saying she didn’t want to trade her Cadillac. Think it is a good decision as she may have a larger garage if she moves to a duplex.

Wednesday, June 17, 1998
Fine tuned resolution* for County Commissioners & wrote one for MCHS. We will fly flag at half mast ofr 30 days. Took it in for June’s OK. Bought presentation folder.
To Boyd Funeral HOme to pay respects. Sally, Becky & Barbara & families there and very appreciative of my friendship with their dad – Granddaughter from Detroit exited that farm sign on 309 (Dick Lawrences) said ‘The Sage of Salt Rock is Dead – His clocks are still ticking’ I took a picture of it for them.
Too resolution to County COmmissioners office. Me Mary at Lupica Dodge. Test drove Plymout Grand VOyager. Bext deal has 9% interest (up from 7.4% present loan) on her Cadillac. She invested her money & took loan when she bought it.

Tuesday, June 16, 1998
Charlton Myers died.
Made bean salad to take to Myers’.
Took Brick orders to Trinco Engravers in Bucyrus & then to Charlton’s to pay respects to his daughters. Only Becky there.
Home-
To board meeting at 6:45. OK’d roof replacement using Geo. Scantland II’s gift to cover it – $75,000. Also noted Pete Miller’s contribution of labor – Geo Brown negotiated gift & it is anonymous.
Fred White – County Commissioner called & asked me to write a resolution honoring Charlton.

Monday, June 15, 1998
Cleaned in, under, on the kitchen range trying to get rid of odor – didn’t find dead mouse as I expected.
Donna Lawrence here at 1:00 to discuss printing her book on Marion County early schools – she pays all costs & sell or give some to MCHS – MCHS publication publish & giving her 25 to 50 back. Made some suggestions on format & scanning.
Tried to call Trinity Monuments & answer machine so waited all PM for a call so I could take more order sheets to them.
Mailed HemGen to Monica Loftin in Borrego Springs, CA – & card to Higgins whose daughter is having brick made for father’s day.

To HH for “Meet Historic Marion” – Allen Potts from Salt Lake City there – he’s Marion Historian for German lineage. Copied some of Charlton Meyers material.

Saturday, June 13, 1998
Left Mary’s at 8:00 in her Cadillac – arrived at Nutter Center on Wright State campus at 9:40 – met Dave Sapp, the Haldemans & Harvey Meister to witness Sarah’s graduation in Music Education along with 999 others – from our seats (top tier) could barely identify her.
Fiasco of “getting something to eat” at Wendy’s (nobody really wanted to eat there) then to Urbana for the real eating – David, Mary & I missed the gift opening while watching Ireland video but Sarah recreated it for us – home by 7:00.

Letters from Keith & Helen welcoming us for visit.

In to Resource Center at 9:30 with the newsletter – ran it & called Mary & she came & helped fold – Maxine Marshall & son there so they helped – to PO at 11:15 & bulk mailing guy said he would put the Marion ones in the first class table so they would be delivered Sat*
Back to RC – Howard Mitchell in to buy back 5 more of his books – he gave rights to MCHS & would help sell these if we order more – called Laddie Warren – he will get back to me Monday.

Picked up Mary Jordan & met Mary Hecker at Perkins – grocery shopped at Kroger & got strawberries & melon at Duffy’s.

To bed by 9:00 – Kathi called from Oregon to tell me she arrived safely.

*Evening: He did & they were! – thanks.

Frustrating day – had newsletter ready but not printed out because Mary was to meet me at HH at 12:30 – then I couldn’t use new computers to print it out because my programs hadn’t been put on them.
Jane tried to help but knew we could [n’t] get them to PO in time. So I came home & printed master copy on my printer.

Didn’t go to Huber Museum for presentation of a Huber hayrake – Anna May [Schwaderer?] wants me to write article.
David called to tell us to be at Nutter Center at 9:30 Sat for Sarah’s graduation. [from Wright State University]
