Royce cleaning – with a chest cold! Kit Fogle brought the HH Bond to Terradise for me to endorse for cashing – When Ken Vincent met me at the door I just handed him the envelope – forgetting it had to be signed.
Instead of watching TV from 8:00 until 10:”30 I tackled the disorder in my office. The desk had dust from when it was moved there years ago! Will give Rocky’s photo paper cutter to rummage sale – and the boxes of file cards & photo holders.
Sent David the file for Terradise Nature Center Preserve.
Email from Scot Spear – spoof on Income Tax – First version unacceptable so he revised it.

30-50° Sunny windy full moon
Phoebe on red bud – right on schedule.
Finished plant list for Terradise Nature Preserve brochure & made corrections from Karen Kelley.
Gale (with Melissa & 2 yr old) came by because Kit Fogle couldn’t reach me by phone & called Heritage Hall. Took a little tour of Terradise.
Dave Matyak came with an Easter lily in pot & hyacinth in post. Gave him the tray of chocolate-covered raisin & peanuts & pretzels. Told him I didn’t want another layer of bricks in greenhouse. (CGale wants them for her potting shed) & since he wouldn’t take up bricks to put in a layer of sand – I got a crowbar & started getting them out – He said ‘was overkill’ & got the spade (shovel) – Says it needs gravel before sand goes in – He saw an animal swimming in pond – went into inlet pool.
2 Geese hang out on pond.

Snow & rain 35°
Tried to call Kit Fogle to tell him I was bringing in a $10,000 HH bond for cashing – but got an unintelligible message so didn’t make the trip.
Worried about the north door to Campbell Street that David & I used. He fumbled with a bolt lock to release the door. Public buildings should have a push bar so in case of emergency the door opens easily!
Worked on draft of brochure for Terradise Nature Preserve – the text. Harry Condry came over at 7:00 and had added several shrubs & vines – Quite a discussion on kind of hickory – Decided it was shellbark (has a thick pod). He helped me enter additions on the computer – I told him to tear up any Euonymus fortunei [*Wintercreeper] he finds.
[*This has become a serious problem at Terradise. Any volunteers should contact terradisenaturecenter@gmail.com for scheduling eradication sessions in late March/April.
Vines should be cut by hand and each cut stem sprayed with Roundup (a formulation of glyphosate) just after the last killing frost. While the Roundup label recommends a 50- to 100-percent concentration of Roundup for stump treatment, a 20-percent concentration has proven effective. A squirt bottle may be used for spot treatment or individual stumps can be painted by hand using a sponge applicator. Treatment should be in late winter when most native vegetation is dormant and prior to the emergence of spring wildflowers. Care should be taken to avoid contacting non-target species with the herbicide. By law, herbicides may only be applied as per label instructions. – https://mdc.mo.gov/trees-plants/invasive-plants/wintercreeper-control#:~:text=Wintercreeper%20can%20cover%20the%20ground,rapidly%20and%20replaces%20spring%20ephemerals.]

Bluebells and planted on hill at start of PA Avenue.

Renaissance man – restored building in Geauga village, carves cones from found tree limbs. Showed me his album of 8 ½ x 11 photos – birds – scenes, family – has a website to show them. Was here about 2 hrs & headed over to Terradise Nature Preserve. As Nick left I said ‘This may be the beginning of a beautiful friendship’ He said yes, you do the writing and I’ll furnish the photos.
Dave Matyak here from 2:30 to 4:30 – He worked on ramp area – removed two rr ties & the boards along flower bed by pool. Suggests we use bricks from former walk to lay over present brick brick walk to bring it high enough to shed water – There is enough bricks.
Saw bloodroot blooming but no trillium up The little bulbs under clump of trees at foot of steps have increased – bloom face up – spring beauties on hill & into woods opened. I cleared leaves & hosta foliage from lowest terrace. Dave cleared debris from outlet pipe on pond & raked some of the duck week that is back – But stopped because 2 yr frog tadpoles were hopping through it.
