Thursday, January 26, 1989
Royce to clean. Knee hurts! Every time I bend it.
At 1:00 Mary, Geneva and Barb Brewer came and transferred to my car for a trip to Columbus. Left me at Ohio Historical Center Local History Office while they went to Christian bookstore.
I signed 133 letters to members of the Ohio legislature all addressed to senator! which I didn’t notice until Richard Francaviglia had left. Letters asked their support of item in Ohio Historical Society budget that provides funds to local historical organizations to be administered by Ohio Historical Society.
Waited from 3:15 to 4:15 for Mary, Geneva and Barb Brewer to return. Home via I-71- 61- 529 and stopped in Cardington at Al’s for supper.
Using hot wet towel and heating pad on knee every night. Swelling down by morning but left ankle swollen by evening.
Kathi called- 45° below zero in Anchorage can’t leave cars outdoors unless they are running.

David’s 44th birthday
Took Howard to grocery. Worked at computer all day- prepared material for a Huber Museum volunteers- sent Kristi check for $50 for her birthday on January 30th- she’s 19.

Tuesday, January 24, 1989
Breakfast at our conference table. Then into an intensive board meeting. I circulated among committee meetings. Reports very positive. Thank goodness Bill Nolan withdrew his idea that board elect officers instead of members. Jim Strider and Richard Francaviglia and I against it. It would have been a hornet’s nest. So the final order of business was recommending our 13th draft of bylaws Constitution to the members for passage.
Steps left me with a really bad knee by the time I started home. Started with ache back of left knee and progressed to sharp pain when I’m bending knee.

Monday, January 23, 1989
15 million Americans live in mobile parks. Trailer reaffirms Jefferson idea of own home on a plot of land.
Jane Trucksis a delightful roommate. Nearly froze and wore myself out on all the steps from our room down to conference room in lower level. Richard Frankaviglia conducted work session to plan agenda For the Future II. Two groups studied first the strengths and weaknesses of OAHSM and then the opportunities and threats facing us.
To buffet for lunch and surprisingly the Inn is full of other guests.
Dinner in an upper dining room at the 1812 Buxton Inn across the street. Sat with Jim Strider, Richard Frankoviglia, Judy Sheridan and Paul Goudy who later hosted our group at his Museum- Hunter-Avery-Downer House. Board members of Licking County Historical Society agencies there and a nice spread of cookies.
Couple from Homer insistent that I visit them to see collection of Franklin Roosevelt.
Nice girl chat with Jane and also discussed more standing rules.

Sunday, January 22, 1989
To Granville about 5:00 after busy day. 10 board members gathered in club room at Granville Inn to watch Super Bowl xxiii. Bengals lost by one point to Judy Sheridan’s delight and Bill Nolan’s despair. He had 49ers with seven points spread.

Saturday, January 21, 1989
Printed out labels for newsletter before going in at 11:30 for hair wash and style at Styling Salon $7.50.
Then to Cottrell’s to pick up membership card to check expiration dates I lost!
In to Center to run newsletter. Mildred Selanders and Lenora Campbell (in their ’80s) had problems folding but were pretty good at putting labels on. Mary came to my rescue about 3:30.
Two sets of visitors. Charlie Evers and Fogts there to inventory Dr. Gray’s instruments that he gave to MCHS.
Supper of chili and frosty at Wendy’s with Mary.
Finished washing clothes when I got home.
Reading Carl Sandburg’s Abraham Lincoln series. I knew so little of the political aspects of the Civil War.

Friday, January 20, 1989
Richard Francoviglia called with comments on standing rules. Had not received packet I sent Wednesday night.
Worked all day creating MCHS newsletter with appeal to membership to contribute to buy post office so we don’t have to borrow so much.
Also contacted Marion City schools and Dr. Stuart will decide when I send material about Judge Myers lectures whether to tell teachers about them.
Forgot to watch Inauguration until George Bush was into his address. Also too busy to watch parade. At least he trained to be president. I always felt Ron Reagan was playing a role and Nancy- she couldn’t have been for real!

Thursday, January 19, 1989
Jane Trucksis here from Worthington from 10:00 until 7:30 p.m. Worked all day on standing rules for OAHSM. She took them back to Columbus to Richard Frankoviglia.
She brought crab meat sandwiches for lunch and I added smoked salami Kathi sent for Christmas and fruit salad.
Exhausting day concentrating every minute.

Wednesday, January 18, 1989
To the Food Connection restaurant at Caledonia to talk on the Christmas Bird Count. Ruth Clark, Dorothy Kile, Thelma Swisher among those present for the Caledonia Homemakers Club. Someone named Jo introduced me as a very good friend!
Worked all day on material for volunteer training for Huber Museum. Also entered Jane Trucksis corrections to bylaws and just got to Marion in time to correct them and send to Don Beckett for legal opinion and to Local History Office to reproduce for board meeting.
Stopped Huber volunteer stuff off for Willis Nye to take to Bails. Picked up chili at Wendy’s to bring home for supper and began to feel my lack of sleep last night.
Stopped at Freda Raub’s to pick up box of clothing Irene Epler’s sister had given her. Freda is Lucille Foreman’s sister- one of my very favorite teachers. Had her for journalism. The house just east of the Foreman house is the Edward Huber house- moved there when his Mansion was built at Center and Greenwood.

Tuesday, January 17, 1989
The day we’ve waited for! At MCHS board Charlie Evers announced contract had arrived from US Postal Service for MCHS to purchase Old Post Office building. Board authorized signing I used computer to type up resolutions asking city and county for $10,000 each toward purchase and all board signed them. I persuaded board to let me send letter to membership to raise purchase price and reduce what we have to borrow.
Had supper at Bob Evans with Mary and then picked up Willis Nye to take to board meeting.
At 9:00 a.m. went into class of 1933 breakfast at Isaly’s. Mary Jordan had said she would be there so I passed up chance to eat with Bernard and Betty Brooks- then she didn’t show. Talked with Irma Prettyman Amick and Edna Harold. Stopped at Nye’s to check corrections for the Huber Story. Home and worked on minutes of Edward Huber Memorial Association from last night until time to meet Mary at 5:30.

Couldn’t sleep so got up at 1:45 and finished Huber minutes.
