Started up 231 at 5 after supper at Morrison’s Cafeteria. Caffco people said it was about an hour but over a twisty Road 120 miles it was two and a half hours to Riverside. Found Grigsby’s at Riverside Cove Apartments along Colusa River. Seemed delighted to see us and talked and talked. Nice small apartment. They spend Winters here to be near Ann and John Thomas their daughter.

Wednesday January 30th Kristi’s birthday
Left Vivian’s at 10:15 after a leisurely breakfast. Took I-75 North off at Inverness and after mistaking Eden Road for Eden Gardens we finally got to George and Gatha Goedes. They live on Route 44 between I-75 and Inverness in a Seventh-Day Adventist Park. George has Parkinson’s Ddisease and is resentful of having been talked into moving there. Gatha was so thin and reminded me of Aunt Theresa. They have four great-grandchildren and are 79 years old. Pulled into Madison Florida about 6 p.m. There are no accommodations along I-10 and it was still 60 miles to Tallahassee. Stayed at Madison Inn- entrance being remodeled but the units need it. It is on US 90 but guess was passed by when I-10 was built.
Ate at The College Inn- chicken plate $4.95- 25-cent coffee and 45 cent walnut pie. Where has this town been?

Sunday January 27th
Breakfast with Carl in the Esther and Carl packed two papayas for me. Left about 9 and drove to the beach south of them. There was fog over the gulf but the waves were washing the shell banks & the fossil shark’s teeth were easy to find. Left Venice about 10:15. Stopped in Bradenton trailer park on business 41 to visit Chester and Isabelle Scott at her mother Mrs. Rodger’s trailer. Isabelle so tickled to see us and made us stay for lunch. Then walked us all over the very clean trailer park. Fog very bad when we arrived but sun out when we left about 2:30 so it was beautiful when we crossed the Sunshine Skyway. Drove out past condos to Fort Desoto- wonderful recreation area- beaches and we climbed up the fort which was built in 1898. At St Petersburg beach was amazed at the big pink Don Cesar Hotel which was slated to be demolished when I was here 10 years ago. Arrived at Vivian’s at 4:50 and so good to see her and David. Dinner and talk.
