Got a letter from Helen Wood last week asking if she could ride home with me. I told her yes but got another one today saying she was going home with Chet Evans.
Went to Vera’s. We surely had a nice visit. She sells dresses and we looked at them. They’re pretty high for me. Her husband fixed popcorn with ?gosgy[sic]. I got to talking about the hurricane and it was 11:30 when I got started home. They brought me in their car.

At least Bill thinks I’m worth more than $13 a week. And he’s trying to get a raise for me. Says I should have it within a month or two.
Met Wally. Bought a blue sailor felt hat, blue purse and blue gloves. Wally bought me a rose. Also got some little cotton pads, hankie, candy, fluffy chicken for Mary, hose and came home completely broke. Put olive oil on my scalp for dandruff.

Took only half hour for lunch and got off at 4:30 so I can get ready for the banquet. Called a cab to take me over cause I had my long gold dress on. Walt met me at the church.
Nice banquet. I wasn’t a bit scared when I gave my toast on Rain. Wally gave one on Insects.
Walked home in a drizzle. Wally stayed until about 11:00.

Walt was to meet me tonight to go to practice for the Banquet and when he didn’t show up I was worried. About 8:15 he came and Bob Haldeman, Louis Woolem and Bernard Brooks were with him. We drove around in Bernard’s car and then went to the Dutch Cafe where I had my first taste of gin. And I don’t like Tom Collins. Danced with Bob and Bernard. Tried smoking in the car but I couldn’t see anything in it. Too old-fashioned, I guess. Louis is still the same. Got home about 10:30.
