Monday January 24 1938
Oh I though this day would never end. Such a headache. Stan didn’t feel well either & so cross. Busy today (trucks I mean (I wasn’t).
Wrote letter to Mary tonight. No luck on number giving today. Only gave one. Took in 30 cents.
Did nails & to bed.
Made out some more lists to save to.

Sunday January 23 1938
Sunday School – Mrs. Fout has asked me to lead the singing- Maybe the youngsters won’t realize I can’t sing.
After dinner drove down to Richwood (stopping at Hospital to leave magazine for Mary) but Walt’s mother not home. Then down to Beryls- He not home but rest of family were. Willa & Betty working in Beryl’s Clerk of Courts Office. Carl Macken down with us.
I didn’t go to BY with kids. BBB & Rosina up afterwards. Stayed until 11:00- Still don’t know when they’ll be married.

Saturday January 22 1938
Washed things this morning. About 2:00 Mary & I started up town on foot to meet Walt. Born girls picked us up. Went to Architect Rayburn’s office and found him there. Have to have 3 sets of blueprints for him. Fee $50 but I think it’s worth it. He’ll see about all the little things that have been bothering me. Down to Schaffner to see about a second hand electric stove and incidentally saw a Bendix washer demonstrated. Marvelous- Don’t touch clothes from the time they’re put in until they come out ready to hang up. Out to Bropst [probably Probst] to see stove. Nice but no base or cooker. Bob at our house for supper. Mr. Kidd, contractor, brought labor, excavating, basement, chimney bids up. About $100 more than we figured. Down to Hospital to see Mary [Burtch Johnston and baby Bob]

Friday January 21 1938
Rain!
Stopped at new Woolworth tonight for a veil for my green hat & a soda to keep me until I got home.
Walt met bus- He has a new grey suit & hat- Kleinmeir’s going out of business again- but they are pretty & nice material.
Bob Johnston up tonight- Doesn’t see very excited over his son. But he doesn’t show his emotions much I guess.

(Gave numbers to play with candy bars today- and one of them came out. Jimmy Agrieste – $37.00)

Thursday January 20 1938
Stan has reformed- And can he be nice when he wants to. And his idea for expanding the Traffic Dept over the whse took their first step today. Bill Holliday is now under his supervision.
Ervin hustled around & sold 3 candy bars for me tonight bringing today’s sales to 7. Bought 6 bars at 3 for 10 cents tonight to replenish my stock.
Mrs. Miller sponsored her first “Play Night” tonight after our lesson. About 30 girls. Enjoyed it & I still don’t feel so dumb but I know I have plenty to learn.
Home & cleaned around here a little & to bed about 12:30

Wednesday January 19 1938
Mary Burtch Johnston has a son. Born yesterday at City Hospital. Walt wrote that news & that’s all. Hope everything is ok.
Stan has decided to stick around. Ed Lauer had a 1 ½ hr talk with him last night & persuaded him.
Wrote letter to Mary tonight. Walt won’t get one this week- I thought it was Tuesday but it’s Wednesday.
-Listened to “One Man’s Family”. Ann & Clifford Case have split up- and doesn’t like physical contacts.—
Played a couple hands of bridge & read- To bed around 10:00.

Tuesday January 18 1938
I’ve been losing out steadily on sleep- want to try to catch up tonight. Stan in a confiding mood today. All off between he & Helen. – Yes again. She doesn’t understand why he’s going to quit Godman’s if no raise forthcoming.- I’d think he’d get tired calling the whole thing off and starting up again every couple weeks- No decision on his raise yet.
Candy business booking. – Sold 50 cents worth today. But had to give Stan two. (He paid for them on Wed.)
Met Helen Wood on Broad St tonight- talked for a few minutes.

Monday January 17 1938
Had quite a time managing my suit case & round tin box with chocolate bars but got to work somehow. Sold 7 bars today. But I’ll have to have more variety.
Notice came around today- all salaried employees making more than $25 wk will not be paid overtime. Stan gets $25 per but has boosted it to $35 or $40 with overtime- Says he’s quitting pronto unless he’s raised to $35 immediately. (Told me today Ed Lauer said Fri that I might get raise.)
Clara Bickel & I played contract tonight with Margaret & Eleanor Ferguson at their house.

Sunday January 16 1938
Mrs. Fout has taken the superintendency of the Primary Dept. Mrs. Smith leaving after 14 years.
Bernard came down after SS. He has a new car- 1937 Chevy Sedan- Black- Took us a little ride. Sooo nice.
Fooled the afternoon away sleeping & reading.
Mt. Gilead Baptist Church & Trinity traded choirs & ministers for evening services- Senior BY visited Intermediate. What a mess-
I stayed for church while Walt sulked outside in the car. After he had gone to bed I went in to talk to him. No use.

Saturday January 15 1938
Up at 7:30 & walked to Smiths with Walt- Left mother’s grocery order. Fuller Brush salesman here & ordered broom- wall brush- duster- furniture.
Bought 2 boxes chocolate bars. Hope to make enough on them to buy my brushes.
While mother & Mary where uptown I pressed clothes- had a bath- studied- sewed carpet rags & read.
Wally & I went to the Palace to see “Wells Fargo” I enjoyed it but wept at all the love scenes. Why? Followed Farley & Pauling home & visited out there until about 11:00- To bed around 12:30.
