Sunday February 13 1938
Making paper valentines at Sunday School quite a task. Such a warm day the girls were hard to control.
BBB came up after Sunday School- Took pictures in the yard.
After dinner we drive around looking for houses for sale- Quite discouraging. We didn’t go in any- just looked. Then Walt, Mary & I went out to see Mary J & the baby & Marilee.
BY- home- Wally & I cut up- to bed–

Saturday February 12 1938
Wally called me around 11:30 at work & we planned to meet a 2:00 at the “Hotel”. Dumb us- He meant the Neil House & I went to the Deshler. So I waited until 2:30 & then he came. And then we “did” the 10?stores. Bought vases, candlesticks, flowers, peanuts, cashews, ash tray for BBB, compact, powder. Met Ralph Hurr & girls from the bank at 5:30- Stopped at my room for my bag at Delaware for eats- At Pearl’s request- & then home about 8:00.
Sewage at our present lots is definitely out. We either get another lot or buy a house.

Friday February 11 1938
Everything is covered with ice this morning but it soon melted.
Totaled my accounts for last year today. $180- clothes $99- Building Fund $220- Room & Board $111-Transp-etc.
I started to clean my room tonight but so far I’ve only got my candy & personal accounts straightened out. I’d better get busy though before I realize that I would be home by now and that dull ache down there comes up and chokes me—

Thursday February 10 1938
Ben took me up town this noon- Got sentimental & bought valentines- And then got practical & bought 2 ties for Wally & a desk pad for every one else.
Made a terrible blunder in contract tonight – played 2 instead of Ace & went down one- Lost about 750 points by it. I had a terrible headache all evening – Positively ill toward end but strung along like a good sport when they wanted hamburgers- I stuck to hot coffee. This was our last lesson tonight but we have had nothing on a “sheet out” bid. Letter from Walt- I’ll stay down & see what happens.

Wednesday February 9 1938
Stan disapproved cuttingly when I asked him if I could work Saturday morning. But the last thing this evening he told me it would be ok- and added he thought I might like to let the folks know.
Now why doesn’t he be nice more of the time.
Laura & Ed (who moved back in Monday) contended that one man takes all the parts for “One Man’s Family”- said an article last week in the Dispatch said so- I’m going to get that paper and see- I know it isn’t so.* Washed hair- batch- exercise- crocheted-

Tuesday February 8 1938
Spring! Around 58 today. Walked up to Lazarus for lunch. Ben, I’m afraid, is going to be my Waterloo on candy sales- 15 cents in I.O.U.’s today. I’m sure he’s a dead beat.
Stanley think industry etc. has reached its peak for all time & from now on the world will be in a semi-depression. Machinery. His ideas, I’m sure, are repetitions of his superiors.
Bottled the “shampoo” I made from a sliver of soap & water.

Monday February 7 1938
Talked to Mr. Williams on way down this morning instead of sleeping. He turned down a job (or rather wouldn’t kowtow & didn’t get in) at Miller Jones 8 years ago.
Ben back this morning. I hadn’t realized what a relief it had been. But he does seem to try.
Three cars today. 4 out of town trips- regular ones & fair sized shipping. Well, Stanley wanted it- Said he prefers it to being slack. But he gets sore when everyone gets on him to do everything at once.
Started to crochet a pink collar tonight.

Sunday February 6 1938
After Sunday School I was sick- Wally took care of me so nicely though.
Mr. Haughten here- Has prospect for a job for Mary with Branch of the Chamber of Commerce.
Felt better around 3:30 & practised song I tried to teach the Primaries this morning without knowing myself. Some job.
Aunt Sylvia’s popped in for a minute. Had dinner with Harrold’s. Daddy & I make out seed order.
To BY- Home & to bed.
How does it get to be 10:30 so soon?

Saturday February 5 1938
Just messed around generally all morning.
Met Wally at 2:30. -Took Mr. Rayburn out to the Lots. “Law” – Then to see Bender the plumber, He’s to check further on field tiles & sewage. It doesn’t look so good right now. Drainage is enough to put the quieties on the whole thing.
Wally & I “did” the 10?stores tonight. I netted a little red vase & a coke. Then we took a long ride. Mt. GIlead- Cardington. To bed about 1:00

Friday February 4 1938
Such a day! Ed Heine spent the whole day getting a shipment from National (helped unload a body to get it) & rushing it to Lancaster to be taken to Logan from there- only to find that it was the wrong shipment. Correct bundles were found in a mixed car that fortunately had been placed- They were shipped by bus. I rode to bus station with Carl when he took them.
Wally met me with Mary & Wilda Shuster’s over for a visit but Sylvia & Perry had gone to Delaware.
“Contracted”* a little.
