Trella Hemmerly – 1933-07-25

Tuesday July 25th 1933
Boy Scout Camp Owens.
Walt called from camp this morning. I took his mother and father out this evening and Walt has a bad cut on his leg. Hobbles around on crutches. He got swimming badge and gave me one and I brought him here for a little while. His leg sure must hurt.

Monday July 24th 1933
Finished my square block print peice. Daddy asked me to go to the show with him. “Melody Cruise”- cute. Ironed all afternoon. It’s cool now. Wore my red jacket all day.

Trella Hemmerly – 1933-07-23

Sunday July 23rd 1933
Hot, sweltering, torrid, unbearable heat. Rode to Columbus and then to Beryl’s and heat came at in puffs like from a furnace. Had ice cream and got cooled off a little. Coming home it sprinkled a little but not enough.

Saturday July 22nd 1933
Picked up Margaret Brooks and Walt and I took him [sic] back to camp. He sure treats her awful and she took all afternoon running him down. Oh the occasion was a Junior Guild picnic at Bertha Towers south of Marion. I took a cake of my baking imagine.

Walt had to come home for a carrier’s meaning so he spent the evening here. He’s reformed or something though. Leaves about 11:00 anymore.

Trella Hemmerly – 1933-07-20

Thursday July 20th 1933
Mother took me to the doctor this p.m. and he says I’m just run down. He gave me some terrible tonic and some pills. Took Joe and went down to see Walt. He showed me around and then I stayed for the campfire he built special for me.

Wrote Walt a letter. He went to camp today. I have my typewriter up here and I nearly suffocated, sick the rest of the evening.

Tuesday July 18th 1933
Daddy let me drive to take some girls of Helen’s Sunday school class to see her at Avondale on the reser[illegible] About 55 miles. Swam about all day. 14 of us. Drove about 125 miles. Waltl brought Joe Bingham down. Left early 11:15.

Monday July 17th 1933
Up late and went to Girl Scout meeting. Mrs. Wiant made me sit in front with her. I had the headache so badly I could hardly hold my head up so I came home and went to bed 9:00.

Sunday July 16th 1933
Sunday school. Went down to Mary’s and then to Helen’s. Esther Wood showed us some pictures she took in Japan. We three kids got milkshakes. Walt came down for supper and B Y. Then we came home. Went [shorthand] sleep [shorthand] woke [shorthand].
