Trella Hemmerly – 1975-09-14

Sunday, September 14, 1975 Temp 34 on porch. Nothing frosted.
Met Martha, Connie, Deb, Laura, Terry & Jackie at shop at 8:15 & we headed for Columbus for Hills “Futurama” Show with Bill Hixon. Small trade fair & Hills new roses. “Center for Tomorrow” on OSU Campus – a beautiful facility.
Bill gave history of flowers & used roses – roses – roses.
Home at Kathi’s at 6:30 and they had gone to Hocking Co. Got back at 7:30 after Mary, Rocky & Mother arrived. David had played for rodeo so they arrived at 8. Lasagna good. I left about 10. Howard had house warm with electric heaters.

Monday, September 15, 1975
David fixed bacon & eggs for our breakfast. He & Karen & Sarah to dentist – me to work. They visited Rita Erickson & Melba Walker. We went to lunch at Dutch Pastry and had a board meeting. They left for Huron to visit Burtons.
Worked on By-laws for Historical Society.
Planted mums on front bank & pulled up broccoli plants. Front yard looks neater. Have had vegetables in it all summer.
Peacocks out & started furnace & fixed bathtub faucet.

Wednesday, September 10, 1975
Jane Wygle called saying her adopted father Basil Sheneman died last night at Springfield IOOF Home. I called Gene in Cleveland – his half brother.
Jackie McCardle started as delivery girl. I ran 2 routes with her & Kathi did one.
Supper good at Kathi’s. I took corn from Nachurs.
Transplanted azalea busgh under white oak & planted plants Mary & Rocky brought from North Carolina.
Kathi called to tell me Don had called her. Been back from Germany since July but just didn’t call.

Thursday, September 11, 1975
Made apply jelly with some redhaws in it for flavor.
Rained all day 1 1/2″ at least.
Picked Kathi up & went to Cincinnati Symphony at Palace on Concert Series. Their September Pops Festival & really a great orchestra. Brahms – Tschaikovsky – Ravel & second part lighter medleys – Americana – Jimmy Webb.
Worked on indexing & watched Greta Garbo in 1931 “Grand Hotel”.

Sunday, September 7, 1975
Howard & I took load of funeral flowers to Timson-Allen for Bud Messenger & then in to shop. Did 72 funeral orders yesterday – $1,200. Day’s total $2,500.
Picked up Mary & Rockey & drove to Killdeer. Howard spotted a bald eagle! Goldenrod & sunflowers gorgeous. Then to Art Market Marion. Lots of paintings & lots of people. Took nap & then got chili & peaches ready for Brooks & Jordans. Kathy & kids out for few minutes.

Saturday, September 6, 1975
6 weddings & 72 funeral pieces. Carl Werley – Dick’s (pharmacy next door) 13 yr old son, died of blood clot following an injury & Brad Messenger (our oil man formerly & Martha’s cousin) died of heart attack.
Called Kathi in to help while Connie, Debbie & I serviced evening weddings.
Finished up about 9 after getting flowers from Bucyrus & Marion Flower Shop.
