Monday December 22nd
Up $14,000 in sales in $10,000 in receipts over same time last year!
150 deliveries went like clockwork. Got all the poinsettias wrapped. Got 25 more white mums with red poinsettias in from Murpheys.
Florists all over the country sold out of “Holiday Glow” and we are using up every globe in the shop to fill orders.
David called wondering what toys I had bought kids since he hadn’t been able to finish ones he was making. So I said I’d ship mine down by bus and they could use them for Santa Claus. To supper with Heckers and Jordans and back to shop to route. Left at 9:00
Wrote bonus checks- gave Judy $1,200- all full-time employees $225 and new and part-time employees $115. Total $4,000- none for me.
Bed at 2 a.m. received from Vivian Blackwell the book she published of her father and mother’s diaries Rocky’s sister Lucille. Their hardships were heartbreaking. Only found them after their deaths.

Sunday December 21st
Charlie Wooten called just as I was leaving for work and talked for 40 minutes. He is Bob’s friend that stayed with Steve in Utah when Bob came to Ohio to marry Kathi. So we shared those tragic days. I lost track of Bob and Kathi with his moves and theirs, but had my address and phone. Gave him Sands and called Kathi after 11 and he had talked to her for 40 minutes. Bob at work.
David nominated for honorary Society. Laura, Mary, Gary & Judy into work. Over 70 deliveries ready for tomorrow including poinsettias. I shopped for fruit baskets and Tuesday night chili for employees. Took deliveries to Stafford and Markley’s when I came home. Made chili and fruit salad. Make bows while watching TV.
Called David but he played Bengals game in long underwear and sweaters and then to Cincinnati Country Club in tux to play. So had a nice chat with Karen.

Saturday December 20th
Busy day but controlled. Sure glad to miss Dave Woessner’s “Management”. Had three delivery vehicles Greg Etter, Terry and Doug Burchett (Cheryl’s boyfriend)
Started on Monday work by 4 p.m.
Charlie Harmon in to thank me for Lady Justice pictures.
Chris Countryman wedding at Caledonia Memorial Methodist. Everything okay much better than last week.
So tired I didn’t even make bows.

Friday December 19th high 14 degrees sunny
Called Davy to wish him happy birthday- 13 today. Excited about a cross country skiing trip tomorrow with his Scout Troop.
Very busy- 215 poinsettias in from Lakewood- shorted us about 50. Took my wagon full to mothers. No lunch. Had an apple about 4 pm.
Took aisle candelabra to Caledonia Memorial Methodist to set up for tomorrow night’s wedding.
Flock of Christmas cards including from Ruby, Pauline thanking me for photos I sent.

Thursday December 18th
Wes Sharp here at 8 to install new 30 gallon gas hot water heater. Didn’t realize that the electric one Daddy installed over 25 years ago was a 50 gallon. Sure hope this helps electric bill.
Put Chris to wrapping poinsettias, but she’s slow. Wrapped less than 100 and I folded the foil for her.
To see mother. She said she wants to be buried beside Daddy where he is and she won’t bother me anymore about wanting a monument for the graves.
Made bows after supper. To bed at 9:30

Wednesday December 17th
Checked poinsettias against last year and found we would need 200 more. Lakewood couldn’t provide so-called Warner Breece in Sunbury and he had 150 to me by 5:30. Walter Krueger of Lakewood called later and said he could have gotten them for me!
Momentum building on orders. Worked on Harley Kelly’s funeral. He was in shop last week buying Cemetery wreaths.
Letter from Mrs. Lutton who gave Victorian furniture to society that she wants it back we don’t use it in a restored house!
Made about 100 bows as I watched “The Millionaire” on TV

Tuesday December 16th
Took delivery to cemetery and checked again on a monument for daddy’s grave. Only way would be to exhume body and move to another grave lot. $420 exhume, $1,300 lot & $1,000 for Monument.
Told mother when I went for a visit and she went to pieces- didn’t want to disturb Daddy. Wants to put a monument where he is. So I told her we would just forget the whole thing.
Hamburg and salad bar at Wendy’s and home- Glad no board meeting of MCHS but would like to have recorded that Henry A. True trust had given the society $500- no strings. Can use to move store or any way we like!
Joan Van Oosten called to outline the plans for Christmas decorations in Old Village Marion area.

Monday December 15th
2 inches of snow this morning but temperature 32° so roads okay.
To Burroughs Nature Club luncheon. Guest Day at Women’s Club home. I was the program on Christmas arrangements.
To mothers after to take her some of Kathi’s cookies.
So tired I checked in at shop and then home and to bed at 5:30.

Sunday December 14th
Kathi called to be sure the box of cookies she sent arrived- and asked me to open my gift- a ceramic Queen Anne House cookie jar- darling in full of cookies.
Called David he’s been sick with a cold all week in bed two days didn’t want to talk.
Got Christmas tree decorated and lights and popcorn on top of Red Pine that we cut that’s on Deck. Spent all day getting ready for Advent Sing. Made mulled cider. Robin- Marrilee’s girl came at 6:30 and stirred it. Hutchmans, Jordans, Bob and Pat Johnson and family, Eleanor Mitchell and Marcella Haldeman + all of Marilee’s family including Leeann and Gene Gompf and eight-day-old Michellyn all 6 lb of her!
Had a good visit with Marcella after others left. Bob Haldeman has married again- a wealthy gal from Delaware.
