Wednesday March 29th 1978
Called United in Columbus but Philippines shipment probably won’t be in until Friday so I went to work. Stopped at Wolohan and gave them mother’s check for $486 for her floor covering and then took her the receipt. Took Mary’s car back and picked mine up with two new General Tires $70. Mary, Kenny and I had dinner at Turroff’s. Jordans and BBB went to Pennsylvania. Then to OSUM for Historical Society meeting. About 60 there. Hal Boncutter on Marion Steam Shovel- very interesting. Taylor publishing reps gave convincing repris-[sic] For a new history.

Tuesday March 28th 1978
Cheryl Grogg Shockey wants to divorce her husband. He beat her up Sunday. Stars out tonight.
To mothers at 9 to move furniture out of kitchen so Wolohan’s could lay new vinyl floor covering in kitchen, back porch & bathroom. To Head Shop for cut and set. Had Molly start on beveling back like Kass and Helen Romine have. $11.50 plus tip. To shop for wedding appointment and Lennox salesman. Jim Ermatinger called with waybill number of hipman via United. Going out from San Francisco today. At 2 took Tonya, Mary, Nancy and Daron to mothers and dug into the dirt in her kitchen, back porch and bathroom. Really worked for 2 and 1/2 hours and got it mostly done. Picked up my car with two new tires. To Altrusa. Reverend Hawk of Epworth gave his experiences in Haiti, Bangladesh and Korea.

Monday March 27th 1978
Up $1,500 over last year in sales and receipts! And Dave thought we were down just because things went so well. To wedding appointments. Talk for River Valley Homemakers. Only 8 but they bought five and the eight arrangements I made in 45 minutes.
Enjoying CBS 50 Years celebration on TV.
Rest of copies of my Philippine trip arrived.
Very few complaints on Easter orders.
David called- wants to borrow Mary’s camper for trip West in May.

Trella Hemmerly – 1978-03-26

Sunday March 26th 1978 Easter Sunday
Rainy miserable day. Woke with headache. Snow nearly gone except little patch by woodpile. Walked out while Howard dug lily of the valley pips and moved straw from beside Greenhouse. Daff foliage 10in high under it. Mary and mother out. Looked at slides of Arizona- Sedona part. Worked crossword puzzle and played music box records. Called Karen, but she was getting dinner for her folks and couldn’t talk. David playing at church. Had found some of Ray’s poems I wanted to read to him. The words of “These Things in Nature I Love Best” fit the music of The Rustic Dance.

Trella Hemmerly – 1978-03-25

Saturday March 25th 1978 coal strike ended after 16 weeks.
Jim Ermatinger called. Had cable from Edgar- baskets on way. Barry and Mike off on their first deliveries when I got there at 9. Sue didn’t show up had brother call at 11:30- had a cold! I picked her up. She delivered rest of the day. Shop crowded all day. Had three weddings. Laura & Tonya serviced. Cash register $5,700! Sales $4,200 with half of posting done. But everything went so smoothly Dave thought we were down in volume. Last day for Karen Porter to work. Sure good to have Connie working. She will work extra when needed. Home at 7 after 3 Roberts Road deliveries. Audubon Philippine trip that I wrote in the mail from Barb in Connecticut- 29 pages.

Trella Hemmerly – 1978-03-24

Friday March 24th 1978
Up at 6:30 and made sloppy joes and coleslaw for tonight at shop. Nina Jones here to clean at 8 and I got a little picking up done. House looked great when I came home. Gave her $16. In to shop at 8:30 and got first deliveries on road by 9.
Everything went smoothly except wedding at First Nazarene was at 4 not 4:30 and Connie didn’t go until 3:30!
Served about 30 sloppy joes to a hungry crowd. I left at 8 and told them to quit at 9.

Trella Hemmerly – 1978-03-23

Thursday March 23rd 1978
Heard killdeers.
Decided we needed more blooming plants and after checking found 75 more at Lakewood near Toledo so sent Barry up about 2:30. He was back at 6.
Excellent quality mums, cyclamen calceolarias, tulips.
Engel picked up 50 of the extra lilies. Nellie Kline wrapping plants in garage cold only 40 outdoors. I’m routing and Barry and Mike Martin delivering. Picked up Mary’s car to use for delivery. Shopped for food for employees tomorrow night. Got chicken for them tonight. Left shop at 7:30 and told them to work until 9. Had a flat tire. Barry changed it.

Wednesday March 22nd 1978
Connie in to work. Good to have her around.
Withdrew $1,500 from my Greenwood Street account and sent to Kathi for down payment on their house in Fargo.
Dinner at Turroff’s with Jordans, Mary Rockwell, BBB and Kenneth Hecker. Bernard said Carroll hadn’t given okay for newsletter to be run.
Stopped at Wolohan’s to pick up sample of kitchen vinyl flooring that mother selected for her kitchen. Sent it and See’s Candy and tulip plant to her.
