Thursday August 10th 1978
Slept until 11- exhausted. Searched 1883 and 1907 histories for reference to Claridon Prairie- can’t find it! Carl & Esther Rieger out with Helen and Roy Stout. Helen and Roy here for their 40th class reunions. To prairie area to photograph Carl and Richard Carey putting up post for marker. Larry Yoder and Cull family there to police area. Roto-Rooter out to clear drains but not much obstructed. Cost $51 and will probably have to have septic bed dug up.

Wednesday August 9th 1978
Coffee at Kass’s at 9. Cheryl has really upset her by telling her we didn’t need her during Cheryl’s vacation. I had listened to Cheryl suggestion but certainly didn’t go along with it! Worked on dedication program and took it to Larry Yoder to mimeo at OSUM. 2 wedding appointments at 6 just as rain started. Took the bakery cake, candles and centerpiece to Turoff’s where the gang* hosted mother for her 88th birthday. I took her home and stopped by fair but too tired to stay. Mailed copies of program to all participants.

To bed at 6. David called at 11. Will be up with sausage next Sunday for Musicians’ picnic.
Could not utter a sound all day! Throat very sore.

On the road by 7 + a torturous trip through Rockford Illinois and small towns around Chicago. Route 30 through Indiana and Ohio. Corn very dry some places and I already miss the wide open spaces. Stopped at Mother’s about 4:30 and then to shop. Barry there and he said he had just mailed the letters over 1,000 lb of them. Dick Straub had not taken check to post office as promised last week. Home about 6. Howard glad to see me. Throat very sore.

Fever broke during night so felt much better for our 6 a.m. departure. Down I-94 through Minnesota and Wisconsin. Beautiful country. Stop at motel in Janesville. Elnora Leyes out of town but talked to daughter who suggested we visit their new shop near the hospital. After cafeteria dinner at Bishop’s found Janesville a lovely town and Richard Leyes delightful. Rightfully proud of his shop which he showed in detail.

By the time we got back to Kathi’s I was really sick and went right to bed and missed good dinner Kathy fixed.
