High 64 rainy
Peculiar Christmas – Filled Dave’s stocking “Hung by the chimney with care”, guitar basic book and strap – diary – candy bars – gum. Howard made me 3 plaques with his original designs in brass nails.
Dave gave me the wooden tray he made in Industrial Tech. Finished very poorly. Kass’ gift was a crystle [sic] from House of Design. Brenda Eisman gave me a box of chocolate molded bells, trees, santas, etc.

At 12:00 went to see Mother. Took her my red “booties” & an african violet to hang on her plant support that Mary gave her. No restaurants open so went to Mary’s for pancakes & more popcorn in their air popper. They seemed to like the 12 nest aluminum Martin house with collapsilble pole I gave them.

Home about 2:30 – threw darts at Dave’s new board from Mary & Ken. Read picture history book that had been Mother’s and annotated it. Will give to David H. Made pizza – scrambled eggs in my gift – made chili for tomorrow and washed.

High 62 – partly sunny
Asked Dave to wash my car – did a sloppy job.
Took Dave in at 9:15 – Deliveries very sparse. Kathi called – has bronchitis – temp 103.

Went to Gloria Marshall 1st time for an hr. Had first check – Lost 6 ¾ inches & 2 lbs in two weeks. Back to shop for Christmas Party. Trays of food from Kroger. Laura Goodwin’s last day. Her husband’s father invested in a flower shop in Mt. Victory for her to run.

Dave & I took 8 deliveries east & home about 2:230. He was paid $67 for 6 ½ days “jumping.”*

Back in at 4 to visit mother. She wouldn’t eat her supper. Then to Mary’s for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner. She had beef & noodles, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry salad & pumpkin pie. Ken gave her a 16” gold chain & a hot air popcorn popper. She gave him a band saw & socket wrenches. They gave me a desk organizer (drawers) and an egg scrambler that scrambles and egg in the shell!

Back home Dave opened his “Mad Magazines” cartoon book & laughed all evening. Had a $25 check – C’mas cards from Shorty & Charles Wooten.

[*help with flower deliveries by jumping out of truck and going to door]

Didn’t expect Mary Longacre to pick Dave up until 9 to go to work at Hemmerly’s but she was here at 8 – So I took him in at 10 – got gas $1.159, picked up $100 check from MCHS at Irma Campbells & admired her C’mas ornaments. Took check to Elizabeth James to buy Marion County Histories for the Society. Also got her original 1883 for $72.50 to sell to Sickel in Texas. Chatted with her about her husband’s Issler ancestors who came also from near Maulbron. To Gloria Marshall for ½ hr. Tried to buy watch for Mother – large numerals – didn’t have it. Home to wrap presents.

David & Dave in to shop about 8:30

Called Bob Stout & ask him to file the entry giving me custody. It has been lying in his office over 2 weeks. John Cottrell called saying John Bartram brought in a check for $5,000 for the MCHSHP Fund from the Hentry True Foundation. I called broker in Columbus & gave him MCHS number so Evelyn Seiter’s stock can be transferred to MCHS – that is almost $2,000. Marion Star carried story of Irene Clark’s early generous donation & pic of her & John & Margaret Cottrell. Also had story of Hildreth Genealogy. Mailed copies of story to 15 other newspapers & genealogical societies. Mailed Uncle Allen a packet of copies of certificates of death, birth & marriages.

At shop David had worked out bonus schedule – totalled $4,000 & written individual peronalized letters to each employee on the computer.

Dave to Mary’s after “Jumping” all day & I to Camera Club’s C’mas potluck. Nice talk to Tozzer’s on Egyptian Greek Island Trip. Cricket of Gallery 21 on framing.

High 37 Low 22
River receeding – in banks but some lowlands in woods still flooded.
Dave saved the day with a lid when grease in skillet caught on fire.

Wrote Mildred Rutherford & sent $22 check for crocheted “Strawberry Shortcake”. Good genealogy material she sent on Peter & Caroline Hemmerly Baker Family.

Picked Dave up at 2:30 – Back to Caledonia P.O. to get his Registered Letter containing I.D. card – good for 3 yrs. Then to Marion for 3:00 dental appointment with Vornholt – 3 more fillings for Dave – Total bill $110. He walked back to shop while I took Endowment Fund documents to Charlie Harmon for signature. He’s taking chemo-therapy & hardly recognized him. Stopped at libary and got newspaper addresses for story on Hildreth Genealogy. Picked up Advent pictures at Meijers. Why are some so great & some so lousy?

To Gloria Marshall for ½ hr. Then down to see Mother for 15 min. Picked Dave up at shop at 4:45 & headed home. He was expecting a call from Marlene Storey – had asked her to go to movie tonight – his birthday celebration. When she didn’t call I called Royce Noble for her number & talked to her mother & made plans for her to go. Picked up Chris & to Grandview Estates for Marlene. She had decided not to go!! At the Mall Chris’ date was not at work to be picked up!! – So we 3 went to “The Toy” Richard Pryor & Jackie Gleason. Pizza after – That mall isn’t my world on Fri nite.

In at 9:30 as David at Hemmerly’s doing payroll – Print out of year to date working now. Kathi called while I was there. David & I to Kegelmeyer’s to look at Olympic Portable Electronic 7 their larger one. CS100 with an interface to the Osborne I computer is $1,395. (portable is $750). So with an Osborne I would have about $3,000 in a complete outfit.

To Gloria Marshall & took Hildreth Story to Newslife & Marion Star. To Young’s Sohio for new battery ($73) & they found a short – fixed it. I don’t think I needed battery – just short fixed!
Call from Morgan Penn, Columbus brokers saying Evelyn Seiter wanted to give MCHS 36 shares Texas Eastern Institute – value $2,000. Called Evelyn & thanked her.
