Call from Thelma Hemmerly- Everett died
Worked on Huber newsletter until 1 when I went to H Hall to help Mildred Silanders – but she wasn’t there! – updated files, printed new brick purchase lists and copied IRS booklet on non profit taxes for MCHS. One man in and gave him a main level tour. Then marry and Geneva came and gave them the two-level to her.
Dave sent copies of the two commendations he received for participation and rescue and police efforts during San Fran earthquake on October 17. You paragraph called on Schuster about Everett – said he had hunted with him and he could shoot a bird out of the air and tell you where he hit him. Found him [unintelligible] feeding his squirrels.
Supper with Mary and Geneva at Denny’s – home about 6 – call from Kathi-
Monday, January twenty-two, 1990
Breakfast with David and Howard – then he into Hammer leads to work with face on SBT accounting I worked on Huber newsletter until 1 and then in for lunch with David and Mary.
Then to H Hall and Mrs. Cowgill working. Tried to work out going to see “Bear” with Mary but she didn’t want to go tonight so I worked until 6 and then home. David left for Cinci about 4:00.

Had a little more pep. Wrote John Schroeter and Bill Nolan – entered 60 more brick purchases – now 575.
For haircut and blow-dry $11 – To HH to pick up disk and copy HP endowment funds trust papers for John Schroeter and Bill Nolan.
Mary up and ate at Fairpark [indecipherable] [indecipherable] cubed steak- but why does all their food taste alike- and funny!
Home about 5:30 – TV – crossword puzzle. – read paper – my usual “at home” evening. Bed early – about 9:45

50º – 57º, no sun
Slept until 10:00 – took Howard to grocery. Return Willis’ call- wanted to rehash Mike Dietsch ill manners at board meeting.
David called – kitchen progressing will be up Sunday night to work at Hemmerly’s Monday – Kass called – need date with Ted Mitchell to finish lease with Paul Dasher. Richard Francaviglia called- Had packet from J. Telfer about his qualifications and willingness to follow preservation guidelines.
Burned about 10 bags of trash in misting rain.
Sent Dee’s check back- wrote one hundred and 48 one hundredths instead of one- hundred thirty.
Felt lousy – napped instead of entering brick data.
Worked crossword puzzles
Popped corn.
Sent C’mas letter to Edgar Buensuceso. Got C’mas card signed- “Edgar, Sonia and kids”. So, family must have come to Calif. too.

57 – 44 foggy, no sun all day

In at 9:00 for class of ‘33 breakfast at Isaly’s- sat with Mary J. Recruited Paul Hablentzel and Elvira Hoover for volunteering at Heritage Hall and they came over for training. – Janet Klingal came in at noon and helped me get reports for Geo. Brown by solicitor by feeding paper into printer. – mailed certification application.
To supper with Mary at Turoff’s and took brick forms to Geo. Turoff. Then to her house for a nap before board meeting. –
Long agenda- Final motion asked for minutes to be mailed before board meeting- Lucy says impossible for her so I hope this forces her resignation. Tired of getting minutes 5 minutes after meeting time.
Updated membership records and made a printout – 400 units prob. represent at least 600 people.
Letters from both Kristi and Dave with payments on their loans home about 10:45

After meeting talk with Charleton Myers about Oak Creek Trail and Marion City book.
Hal Bonecutter offered to research ordinances since 1883.

Trella Hemmerly – 1990-01-15

Monday, January 15, 1990

At HH all day – entered Geo. Brown’s corrections on transformation fund solicitation database – wrote covering [cover] letters and material for Certification application, copied it and got assembled in cover ready to mail –
Ruth Cowgill in to volunteer and made several good suggestions on maintaining volunteer records in a card file.
Met Mary at Perkins for supper then back to Heritage Hall and worked on draft of new bylaws and standing rules and have for committee –
Dr. Harry Maub’s [?] first EHMA meeting as pres. and Anna May Scwaderer’s first as Sec’y – she asked what EHMA stood for in the minutes! – after meeting I realized Harry had not appointed me to the vacant board seat so all the motions I made were invalid.
Picked up and took home Willis. He brought up the old bugaboo about nonprofit organizations giving to another in regard to donation for use of H Hall for meetings.

Borrowed $2,000 from Howard to cover overdraft but only needed $500. He gives me $1,000 every 3 months so said keep this and he’ll give me another thousand dollars September 1st.

Worked on MCH bylaws until went to H Hall for meeting to determine ownership and disposition of items on loan. Mostly Carroll’s – and unknown cupboard stored at Merchants Transfer Carroll says maybe the one Marion Township trustees gave him MCHS – never heard of it before!

The Inn at 7:30 to take Mary to doctor Riego’s office to have patch removed from eye. While she did that I picked up my new glasses or two weeks ago. Took her home – came home and reported my phone out of order again – had high winds again. Repairman came about 4 and replace line from house to pole.
Worked all day on revising MCHS bylaws to submit for certification by o h s m. You paragraph in about 5 and took Mary to Isaly’s for dinner and picked up pictures at Kmart – MCH open house and my kitchen. Worked on Bylaws after news. Watched “Amen”, “ Golden Girls”, and “Empty Nest” and then to bed.

Friday, January 12th, 1990

Up at 5:30 – picked Mary up at 6:45 and arrived at MGH 7 – into 2nd floor day patient room – 2 operating room at 8 – I went to waiting room and slept and red Foresters to the Indies sat [sic] with man who works at Palace and who had no idea Helen Romine and I were related! Mary back in room about 10 with metal patch over eye and yellowed lens of eye removed and a new one implanted. Stitches hurt. I went to cafeteria for lunch and ate with Charlotte Arnold. When I came back Doctor Rieg [?] had been in and released Mary. Nurse put her in wheelchair while I brot [brought] car close to Door took her home and got her settled – then to HH to work on list of areas to be funded by Transformation Fund. – left list on desk for George Brown. Picked up sandwiches and took to Mary’s for supper. Home about 7:00.

Worked all day creating database for sponsorship transformation fund and entering 125 records – print it out great – also brot [brought]
brick purchases up to date 512 sold.
R. Francaviglia called saying Sandy Davis had operation and won’t be back until February. Told me to contact Catherine Stroupe – she called back after I left for Marion – great concern in Preservation Office about Telfer’s plans to alter lobby.
To Marion at 4:45 – met Mary at Rax for dinner. Bought brass wall lamp at Meijer – got more “black box frames” at Super X – and bananas at Kroger for 4 lbs for $.
Returned David’s call type thing they have dishwasher, sink and garbage disposal installed and range top ready to go in – considering an office in the Baldwin building with SRC partnership.
