Trella Hemmerly – 1978-03-05

Sunday March 5th 1978
Packed a picnic lunch and we all took off in the Suburban four-wheel drive. (except Kent, Bill and Bobbie)
started for Pleasant Lake the back way and forded many washes with water to hubcaps. Lunched on tailgate. Finally Road ran along wash between Cliffs 3 ft deep so couldn’t go any further. Good thing as we found later Main Road washed out at other end and would have had to come back through dark on this one! Jackie stopped wherever we wanted. Told her she would make a great tour guide.

Saturday March 4th 1978
Lazy morning. After lunch Wilda, Kevin, Keith, Ramey, Don and I took truck up north of Wickenburg rockhounding. Boys climbed a rock hill and saw a bobcat. Joshua trees here and saguaro. No “keepers” in rocks, but fun looking. Gathered truck load of cholla skeletons.
Took all adults, including Kent to Frontier restaurant for Chinese oven barbecue dinner.
Jackie over to Wilda’s later and I played preacher and the bear that I had recorded at Allen’s. We all remembered the records we had as children. Introduced them to Boggle.

Friday March 3rd 1978
Vivian picked we three up at Alan’s in got to LA airport with little traffic. Saw mother and Mary off for Columbus and I took plane for Phoenix. Don, Agnes and Wilda* met me at the gate after a wet landing. Much of Phoenix flooded, even the runway. Shopped at supermarket and then off for Wickenburg. Highway washed out on two lanes several places but used other two lanes. Hassa Yampa River at Wickenburg washed garage into river. The “Ranch” glorious on top of a knoll- five houses, horses, pigs, chickens, a pet lamb, nine cats “Gigi” poodle. Don and I walked down the road and climbed up hill before dinner, all fun to be with.
