At 3:30 8 of us met at courthouse to file petitions (about 3,000 names) at Board of Elections. When Carroll presented them Ray Denzer said “On the advice of Ed Roberts (county prosecutor) & Secretary of State I can’t accept these” He thereby denied us our constitutional rights of referendum. He had a letter dated January 15, 1975 from Roberts with the legal opinion. The group went to Roberts office to get a copy & Carroll talked to Robert over th phone in his office.
Back to shop to regroup our strategy & issue statement for WMRN. Virginia Howard picked me up to go to Delaware – deliver chair to Georgia Leffler & dinner at Buns & hear Senator Proxmire at Gray’s Chapel.
