Trella Hemmerly – 1947-05-20

Tuesday, May 20, 1947 Temp 60 Sunny
Left Marion at 8:45 with Daddy & David. At Webb’s in Toledo at 11. Picked up Katherine at Museum and then to Ottawa Park to eat lunch. In Ash [tree] over our table were 7 blackburnian warblers who entertained us during lunch of bacon & eggs. Saw planted wild flower garden. It had possibilities but not developed.

Then finally to the openings. First stop only yielded arrow leaf violet & sessile bellewort in bloom, but lupine – yellow pocoon & yellow lady slippers not out. Knocked down what I think is brinthis balonna for Ray. Next stop only a white cluster at top of stalk – 6 in. high. Next one pale lavender spurred violet – starred smilacina – iris galore – & then near Oak Openings Park along railroad Lupines & yellow pocoon in bloom – & bird’s foot violets – also blue racer. Still another violet in another place. Then back to Webb’s for a quick supper & 2 hrs. home.

Home at 8:45 – David was an angel – Played in the “sand piles” & fascinated everyone. Called Ray & told him about trip – Wally in for minute from “School Working Girls” banquet & then to play poker. Worked on records of day’s finds.
