trip to Florida
42 Marion at 9:00 AM
57 Lenoir City, Tennessee 5:30 PM
Up at 7:30 but took until 9:00 to be ready to leave for Mary’s – Howard says he can’t stand to see me leave so he retired to his lair* after breakfast.
In Cinci at 12:15 – off at Gilbert Ave to Greyhound Bus Station & David met us in parking lot. To a Skyline Chili Place for 3-way – which is cheese & spaghetti with chili filling. On to I75 at 1:15 – temp about 50 & uneventful drive to Lenoir City, TN – Kings Motel $32 – News full of truce negotiations with SH of Iraq. He agrees to withdraw from Kuwait – but some contestion [sic] points.

The I75 road as you enter Tenn is a marvel – follows at ridge with deep valleys where small towns are barely visible. Lovely tday to drive.
Supper at Country Kithcen across the 4 lane highways into Lenoir City.
Lunch for 3 – $12 – Dinner $5.75 Motel $32

30/45 Huber 2 hrs
Useless fact – Less that 5% of paperwork filed in any office are ever seen by human eyes again.
Royce here – Made out itinerary. Wrote up Huber minutes & made copies for Willis Bye and Harry Mauk. In to Marion to do errands – mailed books (Edward Abbey to Kathi) (Tecumseh to Dave) & stack of mail at Caledonia & got stamps – 29 cents is such a nuisance. Took car full of trash to Hemmerly’s including bathroom shag rug. Ledft my Income tax at Holbrook – Lost envelope with Hemmerly’s checks (and found it & mailed to bank).
Hope it is at P.O. Cashed check at Bank – to Nickles’ Bakery out of Howard’s favorite Stoneground bread. Got bananas at Big Banana – Left Bicentennial calendars off at School Administration building. Teachers seemd delighted. Picked up chili at Wendy’s, bread at Krogers – took minutes & treas report to Anna May Schwaderer – took minutes to Willis Nye & article for Carey Newpaper that he asked for & Gift & Loan forms & Collection management Policy for EHMA. Stopped at Martha Neville’s with itinerary – having duct problems with her pancreas.
Called David & will meet him tomorrow bnoon at Greyhound Bus Station. Had call from Rosalie Adams so corrected announcement for Reg II – Left camera ready copies on table with disc. Finished packing about 11:45.

42/55 rainy River flooding by evening.
Carla Smith & helper out to finish survey – could establish SW corner (a section corner) – I video taped Carla pointing out the 371’ of my west line which extends from the road past stub of large tree to a spot in Ralph’s meadow. But on the S it cuts off the mouth of Terradise Run – very confusing lines with no directional relevance to road.
Worked on material for Baord meeting. Jack Telfer called to ask about agenda under plan I suggest ed to conform with Functions. But at the meeting he ignored it – passed out reams of paper to support his argument. Ruth Mosher resigned as corresponding secretary.
Got into Marion about 5 but left me purse at home so was frustrated in trying to do anything – buy bread & bananas, deposit Hemmerly’s checkl – Glad I had Howard’s $10 in my pocket so I could buy his 1 doz pens for him.
As always Board meetings left me with my stomach churning & jaws clenched. Tom Wagner brought Judge Myers: He rejected my offer to print his hate letter in Hallmarks.

34/49
EHMA 3
MCHS 5
Finished deploying files into accessible filing drawers by putting Marion book in. Didn’t realize I had collected so much.
To Howard to Caledoni Bank – closed for Washington’s Birthday – so Reece’s cashed his $200 check for him.
Met Mary at Isaly’s for stuffed green pepper & then stopped at Nye’s to take Willis copies of his award. Then to EHMA Board meeting at Heritage Hall – Presentation by Carroll Neidhart on old Race Motors building. Price of $190,000 makes it less attractive. New board members made good showing & spoke up. Dr. Mauk’s concept of operating expenses too optimistic as are his expectations on receipts. Set date for trip to Mt. Vernon. Stopped at Young’s Sohio to have new headlight installed – $14.50
Home about 10 & enjoyed Mary Tyler Moore 20th Anniversary Show – wish there were programs like that now.
Iraq peace plan being considered but fear that unless Sadam is crushed he could rebuild within a year for a bigger threat.

4/24 wind 15/22
MCHS 2 hrs filing, copying
From 9:30 to 3:30 filing, sorting, discarding.
In to HH to copy Reg II Announcement & part of assessment report.
Met Mary at Isaly’s – Had smelt. She is really hurt that Dave told Kathi he was too busy to write to thanks her for his birthday & Christmas money. Hurts more because he never calls her but every time Olgua writes she mentions how often Dave calls her. So she is writing him out of her life so he can’t hurt her anymore.
So tired – physical & mental from working with the files. At least got the floor cleaned off – only the bed & desk to clear.

35/20 2″ snow all day – 20 mpg winds by 11 pm.
Worked all day getting files back into filing cabinets – Got most of the genealogy & MCHS files sorted.
Eula called after Renovation & Harding Pres Collections meetings tonight. Now Jack says maybe a railing in the lobby to close off the Library on both ends. Finally realized that he had left himself wide open at the south end! Why can’t he admit that a lobby is no place for a library.

15/25 sunny
David called yesterday & said Kass had called saying she didn’t need him to deliver for Valentine’s Day – 13 & 14 – I was really disappointed – Looked forward to being with him.
Mailed copies of announcement of Reg II meeting to committee – Tried to work on Spreadsheet – but know Jack won’t accept any report I generate takes the impetus away. So when Howard brought his income tax records it got me started on getting mine together – Looks like my taxes will be about $5,000 – by my calculations.
Howard’s about $800 unless the tust has more information.
Eula called – Diicussed who should head the Tranformation Function. I suggested John Hickson.
Had bacon & eggs & toast for supper.
Called Beverly Hemmerly to see about stopping by on our way to Fla. Found that Francis had a stroke last Fri – Out of his head & takes 24 hr care by family, Dr. says he could go anytime or can have more strokes.

20/34 sunny
Crew from Publication Dept of ODNR arrived at 10 – giving Royce time to do the living room before they came. They brought station wagon full of equipment to make a video tape. Set up in from of wind – under lights & with remote mike – Ed Hinton did the interviewing – Material will be used on radio – and for a video on “Outdoor Ohio”. They were enthusiastic about Terradise & brought out the reasons it has been named an Ohio Natural Landmark. After the filming we walked down in the woods – Surprised at the scouring action of the many floods this winter. Many wildflower roots exposed. Gave Ed Hinton some tubers for his woods neat Hilliard. They left about 12.
Peg Hendricks called & I gave her update on survey & appraisal – Told her we have decided on revisonary clause as opposed to taking tax deductions.
Finished packets for Exec Committee – Feb 5 minutes, update Function Structure, my reply to Tom Wagner’s attack- and revised letter on library proposal. Took them to HH to put in post boxes. Picked Mary up & we picked up my 2 more Delaware chairs at Rt. 23 Antiques. Took Charlton Myers copies to him at Morral – He misses the meetings.

Wrote letter to Exec Committee defending myself against Tom Wagner’s venom. Feel better.
Saw a streaking light out the east window while watching TV – Mary thinks it may have been the Soviet space satellite due to expire.*
Wrote letter to Street & Alley Committee in response to theirs – Endorsed the change to Presidential Drive from Seminole & Mandana around Harding High School.

*[This is unlikely since “Soviet space station Salyut 7 underwent an uncontrolled reentry on 7 February 1991 over the town of Capitán Bermúdez in Argentina after it overshot its intended entry point, which would have placed its debris in uninhabited portions of the southern Pacific Ocean.” (from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salyut_7)]
