Kristi Decker Wright’s 39th birthday
Alls right with the earth at Terradise. Royce has house cleaned, I washed & put away all the clothes. Retrieved the Prius – had only a battery charge – nbot a new one – so no charge – Started marketing ‘Schools’ at Hemmerly’s & Convention Bureau. Have hearing aid batteries & pantry restocked with $69 groceries from Aldi.
Helped sorty for exhibits that Jane Rupp did not restock – The MacKays helping Gale assemble racks given by Macola & bound newspapers being moved to understorage below loading dock. Write my own letter of thanks for the $5,000 I donated to MCHS plus the 2 All-in-One printers-scanners-copiers.
Driveway plowed out yesterday & only a skiff of snow.
Email from Mary Grey Ham – Ed Sheneman’s daughter – She & Joe’s daughter may come to Ohio this summer – Lots of emails from Kathi & Kenny.
Only bad news is economic – more lay-offs. Girl Scout cookies fewer in the box.

Email from Dave Matyak citing -5 to -10 wind chill for not coming to plow me out. Suggested I call MCHS & find out who does it at Heritage Hall – Found it is Knickles so called them & by 3:00 my driveways were clear but I had to shovel from the porch to the drive & from the road 3 ft. to the mail & Star boxes.
Wrote news release for ‘Schools’ & sent to Gale, Willis & David for corrections.
While sorting papers in grey storage boxes found a letter from Forrest Sheneman to Ray & Iva Hemmerly – 4/25/1945. Joe a Major in the 66th guarding 200,000 Germans in a pocket & Eddy flying 45 missions along the Burma Road.
Made a Word file & sent to Mary Grey Ham who had sent me word of Eddy’s death after Christmas.

Continuing bad news on plant closings & job loss. Pres Obama signs first law – Banning lower pay for women for the same job men do.

Snowing all day. Fed birds 3 times – a good time to look at seed catalogs. Prepared an order to McClure & Zimmerman to use the credit for plants (bulbs) that didn’t grow last spring. 6 Iris Cresta & a new canna & lilies. Decided against ordering seed. Will buy plants at Tri-Rivers Horticulture.
Email from Walt Stewart at McDaniel Toyota. My Prius is ready to pick up.

Sent 40th anniversary first installment to Jamie Steven at the Star – Responded favorably & asked for more – Also to send my good review on the new look for Star to the publisher.
Janis Seckel (Vera Mae & Alfred Smith’s daughter) here from 1:00 to 5:00 with her genealogy book that is a wonderful scrapbook of photos, clippings including a photo of 1933 graduates who attended Trinity Baptist Church – She thought it was graduates of Claridon High School. Fave her some Scioto Ordinance material since her family was displaced – 3 generations.
Had planned to go to Friends of Priaire Parks meeting with Mary Donaldson & Dick Cooper but weather forecast for 5 in. snow so I cancelled.
In the mail was the clipping from the Star from John Watkins – My first airplane flight with Doris Dudley & Jane Myers on TWA out of Marion to Boston. John had submitted it to the Star for the Monday night ‘Marion History’
Public TV – Migration of Butterflies & ‘Transportation’ of convicts to Australia 1789 & Mary Wade – 5 generations of descendants (300) when she died.

David’s 64th birthday
Dave Decker & Kathi drive to Pisgah craters for NASA test of equipment for Mars probe for life.
When * woke at 8:00 the house was warm and baseboard radiators so hot I couldn’t touch them 68 ° as set by thermostat! Called Roush P&H to cancel call – I guess it took that long to heat the water for the whole house.
Spent all morning going through the photos that were stored in Rwec Room lower cupboard. One box had been sorted into envelopes by dates. The other box need humidifying so I can sort them.
Gale out for supper – Baked sweet & sour chicken – red potatoes & beets. She shared her frustrations with Lynda Williams in the Archives – has put the clothing on hangers into archival boxes – will be moving the newspaper collection to under loading dock – Asked her to also move the Sheriffs records cases from Resource Center there also – Asked her to suggest to Mary Donaldson & Linda Condrey that they accession & catalog Resource Center collections.
She had made a chart of heating costs with the heat pump in use that showed savings. Made proofing corrections to my 40th anniversary article.

Outside temp in teens all day. Inside temp in 50’s – I’m wearing on top of underclothes – wool sweater & wool jacket – baseboard radiator warm – not hot – called roushes P&H – will be here tomorrow morning.
Re-wrote the first news release for 40th anniversary celebration & sent to Gale for OK – changed date tyo Feb 20.
Dave Decker arrive in Henderson yesterday minus his box containing food & everything else for 17 day stay in Pisgah desert – searched California maps for route he & Kathy & another adventurer will take tomorrow.
Everything in greenhouse frozen.

David’s 64th Birthday party at Red Lobster
No heat – called Raush Plumbing & Heating & Dale Tobin here by 11:30 to 2:30 – circulating pump kaput.
To Marion for new one – none fit boiler but had a used one in their shop – found leak in greenhouse baseboard. More trips to Marion for pipe & fittings. Drained system & re-watered it. But may have to come back next week – left at 2:30.
To Le Salon for shampoo & styling cut $20. Dan told me of Marcie’s problems – has had aching back for years – finally found she has a gall stone size of egg but no operating room available until Feb 19!
Stopped at Kingston for a visit with Erma Hutchman. She is on oxygen 24 hrs. Has a walker & wheel chair & aide takes her to dining room for meals. She found a birthday card for David – Has known him since 1947 when she & Bill & Ann & ed moved to Marion from Slippery Rock, PA.
Then to Red Lobster to meet Haldemans, Jed & Lisette [Miette] arrived first from Cols – Rachel working – Jed & her are renting an apt in the Townly House on E. Town St. David, Karen, Josh & Susannah from Cinci & Sarah, David & Thad Sapp from Urbana – I gave David $150 birthday & gift – It barely covered the chedk for him, Karen, Suz & me!

Hair cut appointment at 12;45 but no power on Toyota Carolla – called Corey at McDaniels – will send someone after 1:00. While waiting sorted 2008 bank statements. About 3:00 Walt Stewart – service mgr came & jump started it – I had not put it in park & pulled out the key – He was very understanding.
To Marion – picked up Garage door opener at McDaniels – Sent the 4 Hemmerly Genealogies books form Office depot via Fed Express $18 – At Meijer got my Aconal prescription $38 (up from $30 last time) once a month osteoporosis pill – card for David & a blooming beauvordia plant $19.
Email from Jan Augenstein in Arizona. She was as upset by Nancy Gracely’s exec minutes as I was. I sent her my version & she was grateful – answered her questions.

Wrote first news release for 40th Anniversary on Feb 19 & send Gale a copy8 for OK & got answer – Kennel Club meets on Feb 19 – have is on Sat Feb 21 – My news release was based on 9 – so now I’ll have to rewrite it. Found an interview I had with Mother in 1980 about her education & coming to Marion – Her 2 previous engagements before finding Ray Hemmerly.
News filled with Pres. Obama’s actions. Release internees at Guantanamo Prison Cuba- Taking oaath of office second time because Chief Justice flubbed the real one – Caroline Kenndy won’t seek Senate appointment to Hillary Clinton’s seat – who is now Secy of State.
Email from David – meet him at red Lobster on Rt 95 in Marion for his birthday dinner.

Call from Sharon Hildreth – concerned because she couldn’t reach me by phone – They cam over about 11:30 to 3:30. I built fire in fireplace and we chatted in the living room. Hildreth Assoc meeting in San Antonio, TX in 2009 & since Mac’s brother lives there Mac & Shareon plan to go. Matthias Lockwood ancestors on his mother’s side so I called Erma Lockwood Hutchman & Mac talked to her – since both have burials in the Raymond Cemetery – they probably are related. Mac also concerned about vandalism & undergrowtth at the Wm. Hildreth IV cemetery E of Pharisburg.
No call from Toyota about my Prius. Email from JHackye Powell – Just back from Maui – Hope to come to Ohio this spring – Leon wants to meet me.
My keyboard wouldn’t respond so I emailed David – He said re-boot. I did – it worked!
